Located in a large garden area in the central district of Rabaul, close to the main sea port, the local market, regional hospital and coconut processing area. The Hamamas Hotel is known throughout PNG as the Spirit of Rabaul, having survived two major disasters. The hotel hosts meetings of The Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club and provides the town's only cinema venue since the 1994 volcano destroyed the old cinema.

Standing amidst the rubble and ruins of the main street of Rabaul, the Kaivuna Resort Hotel has been resurrected to provide comfortable accommodation for both the business and pleasure visitor.
