Ononge Airstrip is the remotest in the country. The airstrip was built on a range top by Catholic riding on horsebacks and built the airstrip some 50 yrs ago. Not really good for people who are easy living. It is in a ragged terrain in the Central Province. I've been there on a chopper and couldn't belive how the pilots manage to land the planes. Choppers are quite ok. The plane, if the brakes or whatever they use to stop the plane fails, the pilot and the passengers will be dead couldn't be recognized as the fall will be like crashing from the sky. Because from the airstrip to the foot of the range is same as the sky and ground. I tell you, you will not want to stay there. Even you can't climb down hill, its too steep. If you legs are fible, the next is dead.,,,,Hope the government acn do something for these people to move around. No wonder goilalas who come to port moresby are reluctant to go back to their place.
