Tufi runs various low season specials from May through October each year. Groups of 6 + 1 (the 7th FOC) and local 3 night weekenders for local residents.
Tufi Resort has a well appointed bar with the coldest beer in "town" (also try out our freshly made local fruit juices). Their restaurant serves fabulous meals. A great mix of fresh seafood, Western as well as Japanese cuisine and once a week they have a Melanesian night with local dishes and upon request a colourful traditional dance group performing a "sing-sing". If you thought diving was good in other spots of PNG, try this?.. Visibility is at least 50 m PLUS! Good diving all year round but October through June for the really flat seas. There is a ribbon reef system, not unlike the Barrier Reef, (nearest reef is only 50 minutes' boat trip away) running parallel to the shore. The reefs come up out of nowhere from a depth of around 600m, hence the unreal visibility. There is abundant fish life, with large schools of Pelagics. Such as a variety of Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, white tip reef sharks and the uncommon white Hammerhead sharks. Manta and Eagle Rays are often lazily cruising by. Inside the Fiord (5 minutes from resort) we have some great dive sites, which offer the keen underwater photographer a vast array of small critters, an ideal spot for Macro shots. Here you find Ghost pipefish as well as the ornate Ghost pipefish, the elusive Mandarin fish, Nudibranchs, pigmy seahorse and a plethora of other fascinating creatures. Tufi is also great for night diving. The 3 newly qualified Dive masters (local boys) are excellent to accompany our international dive team. They just roll up with the guests every morning at 8.30 am after breakfast and everything is set up and loaded on the boat. They have a great dive shop at the edge of the Fiord. Many of their dive sites have great spots at 20 metres along with diving in their fjord, which is a macro lovers delight as previously mentioned. Two dives per day out on the reef with packed lunch on board. Night dives in the Fiord by arrangement. PNG is rich in WW11 history. Tufi was an American torpedo boat base and right outside their wharf at a depth of 45m they have a couple of PT boats shot down while at anchor. The resort also offers bush and nature walks where many species of birds are seen, kayaking, fishing charters as well as visits to local villages, and snorkeling trips for non-divers. A truly cultural experience that no other resort offers. The interaction with traditional locals is far more developed here than in most areas, which is a real educational for young or old alike. Children under 10 FOC at the resort. Child minding facilities are also available. There are lots of flights to choose from coming into Port Moresby from Brisbane and Cairns. A connecting flight from Port Moresby to Tufi can be arranged, therefore not having to spend too much time in Port Moresby. Charter flights can also be arranged if your schedule does not suit the local airline schedule. Airlines of PNG fly to Tufi and back to Port Moresby every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you have enjoyed diving and resorts in other countries, they would strongly recommend you start planning your next dive trips to Tufi in PNG. They can offer you tailor made dive packages at affordable prices. You tell them what you want and they will quote you. They do not have Nitrox and they do not have twin set-ups. But they can you give shore diving during the day for the macro-photographer in addition to their open water dives. |
