Smile The Arnolds of Lae, and their influence in the community

Hi my son and I are doing a history on his Grandparents (Abung & Abunga) Margaret & Ian Arnold who were ex-pats to Lae, Papua New Guinea in the early 1970s til the mid 90s, They played active roles in swimming, Girl Guides and even ballet productions in Lae, and Swimming all over PNG. They migrated to PNG I believe when dad (Ian Noel Arnold) worked for AGI, and held down many jobs with various organizations, some include, NGI Steel, Moale Holdings, Co-Air to name some of them. Mum (Nancy Margaret Arnold) taught at Bulae Primary School for several years, and also taught swimming at Lae International Primary School. They migrated with 5 young Children, (Marian, Stephen, Damian, Bernadine and Gillian) and mum gave birth to Owen, Pauline myself (Eoghan) and Roxine at the Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae.

We are doing a report on "effects your family had on a community" and as I know most people in Lae and PNG in general knew of or have dealt with my family in PNG at some time or another, and ask if anyone, could forward their stories, scanned photos and/or newspaper clippings that have anything to do with our Family. Dad unfortunately passed away in 1996 and we were inundated with condolences from many a people that were effected by my parents contribution to the community in PNG. So please can you forward anything you have to share on our family to Eoghan@aussiemail.com.au we also hope to maybe even post it all on line someday too..

Many Thanks

Eoghan Arnold

Eoghan,
pls correct me if I am wrong. Was it your mom that taught me at that pre-school in the Lae show grounds during 1980? But I definately remember you at LIPS and I think we proceeded onto LIHS at about 1988 to 1991. Very kind regards to you from Albert Agua!

Hi Eoghan,
We lived next door to your family out at 8-mile. I did ballet with Gillian and went to Bulae then LIHS. Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.

Hi,

Although it has been a long time since you have posted I can tell you that I worked with your father and grandfather (Ian) in Lae at NGI. In fact your family lived around the corner from me. If you recall I lived next to the Timber Mill on one side with an Italian family on the other side. I would be happy to recall anything about the years in Lae and my knowledge of Ian and the family. I do recall some stories of you all in the family van.

warm wishes

tony foster
