The people of Keapara are mainly fisherfolk and subsistent farmers, likewise, those from Alukuni and Karawa.
Villagers from inland Rigo bring fresh vegetables to barter for fish, as well as sell at Keapara. This scenic coastal village is known for producing some of the country’s best cricketers, rules footballers, and netballers. These include the late Vili Maha, John Kali, Api Kali (rules), William Maha (cricket), as well as current PNG netball captain Mona – Lisa Leka, and Julian Leka (netball), to name a few. Deputy Chief Justice Sir Mari Kapi is from Keapara, likewise, former head of mathematics at the University of PNG and now private businessman Raka Taviri. Sands of Keapara Village : |

These are just a handful of the many sons and daughters of Keapara who have contributed greatly to the country.
Just recently, Keapara won the Central Province cricket shield, which shows its prowess in the sport. Neighboring Alukuni has produced top cricketers like Charles Amini, Patrick Amini (Waterboard Managing Director), allrounder and veteran Post – Courier journalist Numa Alu, as well as Veari Maha of rules fame. Chief Ombudsman, Ila Geno, is from Karawa.

Last Sunday afternoon, after an enjoyable weekend in Keapara, it was back along the Launakalana Road to the Magi Highway and on to Moresby. Mountains form a magnificent view : |

Again, the sweet voices arose with their rendition of gospel songs and peroveta, piercing the night air.
Such lovely places, wonderful people, so close to Moresby. And yet, few people seem to know about them, let alone visit them. Ends Boats seen here on the beach at Alukuni Village : |
