Need historical information re timbermill Talasea/Kimbe/Hoskins area
I lived and worked in PNG around 1967-1973 with Helicopter Utilities
I am scribing my memoirs of this interesting place and I wonder if any body is aware of a German Catholic Mission in the Talasea/Kimbe/Hoskins area that had a timbermill with an old (I think 1911) Deutz diesal single cylinde -probably 10' high and 6'+wide with a large flywheel and a larger saw. There were rail tracks into the log areas . We were with admin giving out timber royalties to the owners in silver. Any photos or info would be appreciated We had B47G3B-1's and sat on boxes of coins in the camp. ![]() Herb Ray Long Beach NSW |
