Couple of old photos from my days at Lae Primary. I believe these were taken at the school's end of year concert and show my Grade 2 class of 1966. I have a few more pictures on their way up from Brisbane and intend to post them here in the near future (Prep class of 1964, Grade 4 class of 1968, school rugby league team of 1970).

Picture 1 shows the class assembling prior to going on stage, the stage being the front verandah of the school, facing Coronation Drive. Picture 2 is the class in full voice.

Me, I am resplentent in long sleeves and long socks in the middle back of picture 1, and second from the left in picture 2.

Anyone out there recognise themselves?

This photo came from Scott Martin, I resized it a bit, did a tiny touch up and color correction to try to reduce the aging effect.. enjoy

Some more photos from my primary school days (1964 to 1970) can be seen at "Schools & Alumni/Schools in Lae".

One minor point, I believe that Picture 1 of the students and I assembling prior to performing is back to front. We are actually assembled to the LEFT of the main building. Old students will recall that the road into the school came in from the right, off Coronation Drive.

YES YES YES....

Malum Nalu wrote a story titled 'Blast from the Past'. Mavis Wong has responded - refer below :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6th December 2002

Dear Mr. Nalu,

I just read your piece in today's Post Courier on " A Blast from the past" with photos from Scott Martin. I am an old student from Lae Cornation, in fact in Scott Martin's class. I still live in Lae, and your piece brought back many memories. I thank you for that wonderful story, and I am sure too, for those of us from that "era" that are still living in PNG, thank you also.

I would love to get in touch with Scott Martin again Mr. Nalu, and was wondering if you would be so kind as to send me his e.mail address. I tried to look up his address on Rob's PNG Links Dream, but was unsuccessful, but I found yours, and hope you do not mind me writing to you and asking you for same.

Keep up the good writing Mr. Nalu.

Kindest regards,
Mavis Wong

During the mid 1960's my mother, Barbara Martin, ran a small after-school child care business from our 11th Street home. I assume that all of the kids were students at Coronation Drive.

Attached are three photos taken in 1966.

Does anyone recognise themselves?
