St Peter Chanel Primary ( Erima) - Meaningful cultural celebrations

They were jumping, twisting and swaying proudly in their grass-skirts and tangets, their colorful headresses with their quivering bodies moving enthusiastically to the drums and kundu beats.

The expressions on their painted faces and the songs sung from deep within and with care showed the importance of the event and the seriousness of it all - though it was just a mere show - meant for the eyes of only a few.

The setting; a small playground, with hundreds of spectators, mostly parents and family members.

Yes. It wasn't much of hassle as students of St Peter Chanel Primary, aged 10 to 15 years took to preserve their cultures through the annual school cultural activity on Friday last week.

The students made their parents and teachers proud by displaying the true values of their culture and by celebrating in truely traditional style.

Each student group perfomers were from different provincial and cultural backgrounds. There were four regions, New Guinea Irelands, the Highlands, the Momase and the Papuan Region.

Hi all,

I'm new to PNG, Port Moresby and this board, hope this is the right place to post...

I always like to get hold of music local to the places I visit. Can anyone tell me where I could get hold of some drum music, Kundu, slit drums, ???
