Igam Barracks Mr Lucas

Hello John,
Yes Giok is my brother and eventually it did him good. He is now a Warrant Officer and has been in the army for many years. Took him a while to straighten up though. I am submitting a photo which I think is of you. Libby Waters advised me that she is also in it. As I was at high school when the photo was taken it did not ring a bell. I wonder whether such discipline would be tolerated these days???

I also had a look at Google Earth and Igam Barracks shows up with some detail. Worth a look for nostalgia.

Regards

San Lauw

I would like to see the photos. It should interesting going for a visit. I heard so many negatives and then some friends went back and said they had the most fantastic time.
Its probably down to attitude somewhat.

The Sullivan Family arrived in Igam Barracks around March 1968 from Port Morseby. For a couple of months attended Lae primary school then Igam Barracks Primary School when it opened then first form Lae High. I remember the Ottways, Fosters, Harringtons and the boss of Igam Barracks COL Bishop, who is still living at the Gold Coast, bite ruff at the moment and yes Micky Bishop is still alive.
How about a kids of Igam Barracks reunion ?

Hi Mick,

I believe you were our neighbours. We lived across from you and your sister Kerrie was a friend of mine. My name is Paula Frew and I remember the names you mentioned in your thread. Also the Walters, Francis, Mellings, Moons and the Lauws. This has been a great site and also the schoolfriend site. I was able to find my best friend from high school on that site. I actually have a photo of your sister, but my scanning skills are not quite there yet. Cheers, Paula

The waters family were there from 1970 - 1974. Dad was the Quartermaster. We lived in between the Lucas's and the Frosts. Colonel Harrington was there to begin with and then Colonel Cole took over. My brother is Stuart and I am Libby. I think a reunion is a wonderful idea. I was back in PNG with my two boys from Sept to Dec last year. We visited Igam and I was very disappointed at the state of the barracks, the houses and the facilities. The school however, has been reopened and is looking quite good.

The other Sullivan member.

I have a brother Michael , A sister Kerrie and I'm Anne the eldest of the Sullivan family that lived in Igam Barracks ,having moved from Port Morseby in 1968, leaving for Australia at the end of 1970. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who may remember Jenny Frazer , Susan Beaumont, Chris Forster,Brian Elliott, Robyn Inge and Family. A lot of great times were had at Igam. Michael has suggested a reunion which is a great idea.

Hi again to all those kids who were at Igam in the early 70s. As the Headmaster at the time I have all of your names firmly impressed in my memory - many were mentioned in one of my previous threads. Where are you all now and what are you doing?

John Lucas
