Guitar Makers

We have so many talented people here in Papua New Guinea, who make a variety of handmade items ranging from bilums, necklaces, kundu drums ect…and much more.

Most of these items can be found at craft markets, shopfronts, markets and sometimes at their homes when certain manufacturers find it too hard to walk around with their produce. Dckson a plumber & builder licensed Tradesman, who now works for Kokoda Trekking Limited along with his brother have been making these guitars for over a year now and are looking for a wider market to save their legs.

****son previously worked for Covec PNG Furniture as a craftsman under the direction of a chinese man by the name of Lee Chan. It was while working there that he felt the inspiration to make something to sell to help his family survive in Port Moresby where life can be pretty hard at times.

****son worked for 3 years making all kinds of furniture such as tables, cupboards, guitars etc, the list goes on.

Later ****son left his employment and had to think how to survive so him and his brothers started their own guitar business in Kila Kila, a suburb of Port Moresby. In doing so he taught his also talented brothers, how to make and modify the guitars. With their help they were able to work much faster and produce more for sale.

The first lot of guitars were made and given to the Ministry of Good Samaritan, United Church in Akoma Village, Gulf Province where ****son and his family originally came from before settling in Port Moresby.

One of his guitars was given to the Revival Centre Fellowship, in Kila Kila. Others were continually being made and were sold to valued cutomers.

****son sells his guitars ranging in price from K60.00; K70.00; K50.00 depending on the quality of those produced.

If you are interested in purchasing one of ****son's guitars, please contact Jessie Garap: Email - jessie@pngbd.com
