The Price Waterhouse Coopers (PCW) “walk for Life” Corporate Challenge continues to be a dignified and growing success, and is becoming popular among many Papua New Guinea’s corporate citizens and businesses. This is following its eventful years of staging.

TOP THREE TEAMS
  • Papua New Guinea Tourism & Business Directory - pngbd - Average Time for 5 runners - 22:04
  • Blake Dawson Waldron - Time 24:04
  • Airlines of PNG - Time 26:36

Our Kokoda Trail Fast Trek Runners - these guys travelled all the way in from Kokoda to take part in this event. They had very little sleep the previous night due to excitement and the final touches of their canvas tarpaulin used on the Kokoda Trail and also erected at Ela Beach Sunday, 30th August, 2003:

RUNNERS:

1. Syprian Haera - 10th overall in a time of 19:48
2. Rod Ori - 19th overall in a time of 21:31
3. David Jinga - 22nd overall in a time of 21:58
4. Glen Hanson - 25th overall in a time of 22:36
5. Patrick Womi - 42nd overall in a time of 25:48

As they boarded the flight for Kokoda, their last comments were, this time we only knew about it two weeks ago so we started training. Next year we will be ready and we will train the whole 12 months.

The 2003 Price Waterhouse "Walk for Life" corporate challenge materialized yesterday at the Ela Beach Oval (31/08/03) with more than 1,000 corporate citizens and about 20 companies taking part in the event - a fun run and walk – all for a worthy and “hearty” cause. And the number of participants each year is increasing by hundreds.

The PCW Walk for Life Corporate Challenge is an initiative designed initially to encourage the community’s participation in an activity that facilitates the funding of the work of Sir Buri Kidu Heart Institute.

Though, the objective is purely to raise funds to support the efforts and endeavors of the Sir Buri Kidu Heart Institute which is largely, a privately funded, non-profit organization, corporate citizens and companies also took the opportunity to showcase their organization and its involvement in the general community.

pngbd in conjunction with PNG Trekking, welcomed two Australian trekkers on Saturday from Sydney who agreed to join our guides and porter and participated in the event staged by PWC before flying out to the Kokoda Trail for a 9 day 8 night trek:

The Sir Buri Kidu heart Institute was established initially in 1995 to undertake critical research into heart disease related illnesses and to provide awareness and develop ways to combat the growing incidence of heart disease in Papua New Guinea. The corporate challenge has been a "lucky charm" since it first begun.

Participants arrived at the starting point at Ela Beach as early as 5.30 am. By 6.00 everyone turned up and did a bit of warming up before heading out for Lawes Road at 6.30.

Runners started running and walkers started walking - filling the usually busy road in Ela beach.

It was a colourful event, and employees in their different uniforms took time to proudly display their company names and logos.

Ends//

Our team took out the encouragement award - our very own www.kokodatrail.com.au trekking guys. Guides, Russel Eroro and Eric Uwea and a porter Sailas were just so proud to take part and walked like they were out on the trail itself even though they were carrying kilos on their backs made it look just so easy! We also gave away a free trip on the kokoda trail and it was won by Margaret Richardson from Strickland Real Estate:
