Well done Wendy, my mum will love your photos. She was the matron of the Goroka Hospital and also worked as a nurse in New Guinea. You stated you scanned your old slides, how did you do that. Mum has alot of slides but i have difficulty scanning them.

Hi,

To scan slides, you require a scanner that can scan slides. These scanners also have a light on the lid, and are usually more expensive than regular scanners. You may be able to take them to someone to have them scanned.

Thanks Shane, Yes the scanners are expensive, Iwas hoping i could find a way of adapting a regular scanner without going to the expense.

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your photos of the Goroka Show. I actually lived in PNG for a long time.......Aiyura 1957, Goroka 1969 -1975 (I think), then Lae 1975 - 1976. I left right after Independence, went to Sydney and ended up on Maui, Hawaii. I have many fond memories of PNG and would love to visit again one day. I am wondering about a couple of people I knew in Goroka, Liz Taylor and Brian Greathead - also knew Patty and Danny Leahy.

Hi Zokozoi, sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner; I usually receive email notification of messages but somehow this one slipped by me. Scanners than can handle slides/negatives have what is called a TMA (transparent materials adaptor) in the lid, and as Shane said are usually around $100 dearer than the equivalent scanner without TMA (AUD$400 would be a rough bench-mark figure for a good-quality TMA scanner). They are readily available, and well worth the extra money if you have a lot of slides you want to save to your computer, plus if you have lost a photo but still have the negatives you can make your own copy from the negative.

Hi Elsa, glad you enjoyed the photos. Will ask my husband about your Goroka friends (they are actually his photos); I only passed through there on my way to Hagen a couple of times to visit him during our courting days. I'm sure I've heard him mention Danny Leahy, though he wouldn't know his present whereabouts.
