Found out from the cover of the latest DWM that there will be a mini-adventure of the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory on Comic Relief in the UK on March 18.

Showrunner and the mini-adventure's writer Steven Moffat has given details about it. He said it is made of two mini-episodes, around four minutes each and maybe to a total of eight minutes.

As to the titles of this adventure itself he said that one is called Space & the other one is called Time.

He said it is a miniature story and that it should be taken seriously as a proper bit of Doctor Who and that it is funny but not a sketch.

The Writer’s Tale:
The Writer’s Tale is a collection of email and text correspondences between Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies and DWM writer Benjamin Cook between February 18 2007 and March 26 2008 as Davies tells Cook the process in making Doctor Who.
It has been fascinating read on what went on with the production of Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures (although SJA gets only a scant reference with Davies only talking about rewrites that were required for this show) during this period of time.
The Writer’s Tale has an interesting foreword from Philip Pullman. Included in the foreword Pullman says that he never met Russell T Davies. So it was quite remarkable his involvement with this book.
In showing what he has written so far during this period, Davies presents scripts to Cook in the body of the emails and found him doing this to be very bold.
Season 34 saw Donna finally becoming a fully fledged companion but that only came about when Catherine Tate expressed interest in coming back to Doctor Who. At this point Russell T Davies had already planned the early stages of the season including developing Penny Carter, the never used companion that Donna had replaced.
It was an interesting read from The Writer’s Tale on what Penny Carter the companion would have been like. Davies however did use the Penny Carter name for a character in the season 34 opener Partners In Crime played by Verona Joseph.
It is unlikely Verona Joseph was who Davies had in mind to play Penny Carter the companion. The Writer’s Tale shows that Davies’ choice was Miss X, her real name having been excised for the book’s publication.
Whether Davies and/or Cook would ever reveal the identity of Miss X only time would tell.
Since The Writer’s Tale’s release, a new edition The Writer’s Tale: The Final Chapter was published with new material focusing on Russell T Davies’ final year as showrunner.
I am currently reading The Final Chapter and will make my remarks on it at some point after I finish reading it.

The Dalek Pocketbook and Space Travellers' Guide:
The Dalek Pocketbook and Space Travellers’ Guide published in 1965 was written by Dalek creator Terry Nation.
It is an encyclopedia and dictionary about the Daleks and includes an interview with Terry Nation himself.
A very enjoyable light read and from a historical perspective it is interesting to read about the history of the Daleks at a time before Nation rewrote it when he introduced Davros in 1975’s Genesis of the Daleks.

The Next Doctor Confidential:
With the main episode featuring the Cybermen, the corresponding Confidential episode included clips of Cybermen stories from the “classic” stories.
For the clips of The Tenth Planet it included dialogue from Barclay (David Dodimead) and Barclay’s name is shown on the DVD subtitles this is despite the fact that Barclay’s name was never mentioned in either the material filmed for this Confidential episode or in the clips that were incorporated in it.
In contrast when it included clips of Tomb of the Cybermen and dialogue from Eric Klieg (George Pastell) the subtitles just referred to him as “Man”.
Why would viewers not familiar with the “classic” series actually know who Barclay was but not Klieg.
Funny that the clips got wrapped up when narrator Tony Head said to go back to the Christmas present by looking at Christmas past referring to the fact that The Next Doctor, the then current Christmas special was set in 1851.
Since The Next Doctor was about Jackson Lake mistakenly believing that he was the Doctor, it seems fitting that the history of Doctor Who spoofs showing imitations of the Doctor got looked at here but conspicuously Curse of the Fatal Death written by a certain Steven Moffat was not included for reference.

The title of the first two episodes, which makes up a two-parter, that opens season 36 has now been revealed.

They are called The Impossible Astronaut & Day of the Moon.
