Port Moresby Chamber Of Commerce & Industry E-news - 08 August 2003

1. MANUFACTURERS COUNCIL

Manufacturers Council is conducting a brief survey on behalf of PNG's printing firms in an attempt to find out from the business community how much of their printing is done overseas and why? when it can also be done in PNG.

Members are asked to participate by filling the Questionnaire attached and forwarding it to Manufacturers Council by 22nd August 2003.

2. SOGERI BOOKS

A book written by Lance Taylor titled "SOGERI" and launched in Canberra last September is now on sale at Brian Bell for K59. The book tells of the first 50 years of the school that helped shaped the Nation. The books will also be available at all Brian Bell stores throughout the province for K62.

3. KNOW YOUR MEMBERS

As advised earlier in each E-News we hope to feature a short company profile on a member company advising fellow members what services they provide and how to make contact. There will be no charge for this so If you have your company profile handy please send it through to the Chamber so we can feature it in this months E-News. Remember your Chamber E-News is distributed to several hundred contacts, not only members, around the world. Call us now for some free advertising.

4. TELIKAD

If you don't already know........... Telikom PNG launched a new product called 'Telikad' on Friday 1st August. Telikad is a prepaid card that can be used on the neighbour's phone, office phone & any blue access phones and your calls are billed against the card not the telephone. For more information refer to the attached Telikad Fact Sheet

5. TAXATION ISSUES

In our July 6 E-News we sought your comments on the following for inclusion in a POMCCI statement, this was in relation to the Government's new "Red Tape" committee dealing with impediments to business developments in the country.

6. NCD COMMISSION BOARD

The Chamber would like to congratulate and advise its members of Mr David Conn's appointment as a Commissioner on the NCD Commission Board.

7. ELECTRICITY CHARGES

PNG Power advised its new rates came into effect from 1st August, however we have had one complaint saying the new rate was charged before the said date of 1st August 2003!

8. NETTHERAPY WORKSHOP


If you missed out on our July 10 breakfast where we had Greg Parrish from Nettherapy as guest speaker, you still have a chance to attend his workshop on the 15th of August at the Gateway Hotel. If you are interested please contact Elma at the Chamber.

9. CAREERS EXPO

Don't forget Careers Expo kicks off on the 20th and ends on the 21st of August. It will be held at Deloitte Towers. The Expo committee is looking for 3 volunteers to help as co-ordinators during the expo, so if anyone is interested please contact either John Cason at Qantas or **** McCarthy at Forest Industries.

10. TRADING COLUMN
