Castle 5.6 is called The Final Frontier and it is a saying that usually associated with Star Trek and somewhat appropriately it was directed by Star Trek alum Jonathan Frakes and guest starred another Star Trek alum Armin Shimmerman.
The episode is about a murder that took place at a sci fi convention and it concerned a short-lived but fictional sci fi show called Nebula 9 which got legendary status due its successful DVD sales.
Nebula 9 is a fictional take on the real short-lived sci fi show Firefly which later had successful DVD sales and spawned the movie Serenity. The lead character of Firefly was Captain Mal Reynolds and he was played by Nathan Fillion the same Nathan Fillion who plays the Castle TV series title character.
Ironically Richard Castle as played by Nathan Fillion, expressed his disdain for Nebula 9 but the world of Castle does not make Nebula 9 a complete fictional substitute for Firefly.
This is because at the same time as expressing his disdain for Nebula 9, Castle says that the sci fi he likes is that of Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek and a Joss Whedon show one of which he conveniently did not name.
If there is a criticism I can make of this Castle episode that took place at a sci fi convention is that there is no mention of Doctor Who.
Mention of say Star Trek has been ubiquitous in many TV shows and mention of Star Trek in the Castle episode has been complemented by its director and one of its guest stars being Star Trek alums. Therefore it is hardly surprising that Star Trek references would be made in an episode about a sci fi convention.
In contrast when Doctor Who references are made in US TV shows they come as a complete surprise and Doctor Who references has been made in the most unlikely of places including Grey’s Anatomy. It is therefore rather perplexing that no Doctor Who references were made in the Castle episode given its aforementioned setting and to be blunt this made me conclude that the writer of the episode Kate Sargeant is out of touch with the world of sci fi.

Star Wreck II: The Old Sh*t:
Second in the Star Wreck film series and there seems to be two editions of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXm4k...=results_video

All animated and not bad in amusement.
Pirk sure pulls no punches on what he thinks about the physical appearance of his enemies.
The ending was not bad of the crew avoiding their demise.

The Star Trek: The Original Series episode Metamorphosis introduced Zefram Cochrane and was played by Glenn Corbett.

Corbett died in 1993 but Zefram Cochrane would be seen again three years later in the TNG movie First Contact with the character now played by James Cromwell.

When Cochrane first appeared in Metamorphosis he met Spock played by Leonard Nimoy amongst others and there was a kind of a reunion between Spock and Cochrane in American Horror Story: Asylum as it included in its regular cast Cromwell and Zachary Quinto who played Spock in the previous and the upcoming Star Trek movies.

Star Wreck III: Wrath of the Romuclans:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPglc3z6r_A

Third in the Star Wreck film series.
The subtitle is a take on the Wrath of Khan but instead of Khan they their own Romulans known here as Romuclans.
Not bad in humour and one part I like was the bit about the coffee machine.

Star Trek: New Voyages

World Enough and Time:
Episode 3.
This was the last episode under the New Voyages title.
George Takei reprised his role as Sulu this time as his older self as he goes back in time to when Kirk was in command of the original Enterprise and he brought with him his daughter Alana.
Quite good especially the dilemma that the Sulus had faced when deciding what needs to be done to get things back to normal.

From StarTrek.com

Jim Mees and Peter Duryea have passed away.

Jim Mees was the set decorator for 144 episodes of The Next Generation, 89 episodes of Voyager and five episodes of Enterprise.

Mees’ other work included Who’s The Boss, Threshold, 90210, Private Practice & Bones.

Mees died on March 29 2013 at the age of 57.

Peter Duryea was born on July 14 1939 and he had appeared in the original Star Trek pilot The Cage playing Lt Jose Tyler and his scenes like a lot of The Cage would later be reused for the two parter The Menagerie.

Duryea died on March 24 2013 at the age of 73.
