Bovo 1970's
Hi Belinda Chris Marshall, I went to Bovo 1971-1976 remember your family they were well known in Bougy. I was looking at a class photo of us Grade 6'ers class of '76, do yu remember any of us- David Mitchell (Brisbane), Craig Williamson, Nadine Bond (Cairns), Kurt Weiss, Peter Burrell (just saw his atricle on Bougy web site (Bondi Bch) Stacey Champion, Liz Pearson and others?
I know the Seetos well, they're all in Brisbane running family stores for dad Francis- all married with pikininies - anyhow Belinda how's life in Montreal, I've been to Canada three times all of that in BC/Alberta though. Great to catch up with all wantoks from the 70's era the best times in PNG I'm sure you'd agree. cheers Chris Marshall ![]() I remember making Milo sandwiches (bread, butter and a thick layer of Milo) and PURPOSELY leaving it in my plastic backpack, near the school entrance in the tropical sun, so that by recess I had a liquid chocolate sandwich. Yummo. My Dad ran an export busines (coffee, cocoa, copra, shell, artifacts) in Toniva, across the street from the Davara, next to Chee's. My Mum, Ivy Darcey worked there also, and taught sewing at Toniva Primary at one point - very briefly - until she threw a duster at a kid who wouldn't shut up. That was the end of that...Write if any of this rings a bell. P.S. I'm now living in Montreal, Canada, It's cold but I love it. Big sister Susie is in New York, Judy in Sydney, parents and brother in Cairns. All still going strong. Must've been all that quinine.[/quote] |

Its been tooo long and I have no real idea how I ventured across this page but names like Richard Frost, Simone Craswell, Belinda Darcey, the Seetos, Anita Cheong, Sandra Harling, the Neales just to name a few bring back wonderful memories.
My sister Carolyn and I remember Bougainville and Toniva VERY fondly and all that I remember of Kim Rothe is being stood up on my table and hit with the ruler on my legs for not understanding fractions.... hahaha. Carolyn now lives in Brisbane Australia and I live in Lagos Nigeria... have not got the international lifestyle out of my system. Catch up on facebook sometime it would be great to hear from you. Hi all fellow 1talks!
My name is Annette Koopman and I too went to Toniva Primary School from 1968 to 1975, together with my brother Peter. My eldest brother John went to Arawa High. I too fondly think back on the Bougainville day's and for the hell of it typed in Google "Toniva Primary School". Bingo! Frank and Belinda Darcy, my goodness, yes your mum taught me sewing lessons up until 1975, until my brother Peter and I left to return to Europe. As a gowing away present she gave me a sewing book "Creative Needlework" and she wrote a note: To Annette Koopman, Whom it was a pleasure to teach, Toniva 1975. I still have the book :-) Give her my best regards. I currently live in The Netherlands, Peter lives in Perth, Oz and John in Dubai. I remember with great pleasure having (at the beginning) swimming lessons in the Toniva bay, later the lessons were given in the Davara Hotel swimming pool, great place! Also indeed every week singing the national anthem and raising the flag, the music lessons and playing the flute during this ceremony. The sports days were great too, on that (so it seemed at the time) huge sports field. The movie nights at school. It all comes flooding back! I remember fondly sister Theresa and Mrs. Wong and the headmaster (can't remember his name though, he had a beard, Australian). Never got the cane though ![]() If anyone is still looking at the sight, it would be great to connect. Also on FB. Best regards, Annette Last edited by ackoopman; 02-09-2016 at 08:19 AM.
