ALUMINIUM cooking pots can cause gastro-intestinal and other health complications, said a food therapist in Lae. Robert Badui, who runs the Healthy Lifestyle Centre at Kamkumung, said according to research books he has studied, aluminium in cooking pots has the potential to affect the health of many people. He said it has been scientifically proven by doctors around the world that water used in aluminium cooking pots can create gastro-intestinal problems and other diseases such as stomach ulcer, colitis, dryness of the mouth, constipation and the tongue losing its original colour. Mr Badui said in later stages it could lead to massive vomiting, possible loss of memory and sometimes Alzheimer's disease. He said when the food cooked in an aluminium pot is consumed and enters the intestine the vital nutrients including the potent aluminium is sent to all parts of the body. Mr Badui said people with a weak immune system are at a greater risk of getting sick or affected. He urged people to buy steel and other alternative pots to prevent diseases from attacking them. Mr Badui has called on the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission to conduct an independent research and survey to confirm the findings. He said if proven, the commission should consider banning the manufacture and sale of all aluminium cooking pots in the country. Mr Badui who is an expert in natural food remedies has treated many people suffering from various forms of illnesses through simple food and water therapy. Ends// |

While on the issue of poisoning by metals I think the most pressing issue is the potential for lead and petroleum poisoning from the exhausts of cars.
This is a potential problem in towns where so many road UNworthy vehicals run to and fro belching out noxious waste gases. It is known that lead poisoning leads to decreased mental acuity, anaemia, poor concentration and long term health problems. The petroleum can cause respiratory as well as nervous system ailments. The policing of traffic pollution needs to be improved for the sake of the health of people and the environment in which we live.

There are times when such information when made available to various print or audio media outlets, can cause panic for most people. I would suggest he (Robert Badui) does research himself to look for alternative ways and propose practical alternatives to others. Look at questions like: For how long one should keep such a pot? One time use to multiple use? Type of cooking methods? Dry cooking, such as preparing sago compared with boiling rice, potatoes etc? What is the process of obtaining aluminium - absorption by food or through breathing of fume as a result of heat being applied? I remember way back in 1978 when certain professor from UPNG wrote an article about naturally occurring mercury at Lake Murray, Western Province being bioavailable to fish species high in the food web. Among his other recommendations, he stated that: (i) the inhabitants (Kunis) should not eat fish (replace with tinfish) and (ii) should be relocated from Lake Murray and settled elsewhere along the Strickland River. Both of his recommendations were valid based on his findings, but were not practical. This caused a lot of fear among the Kunis. The Kunis (Miwa, Tagum, Boboa, Usokof, Maka, Kusikina - inhabitants) and the newly immigrants, Yongoms (Buseki inhabitants) are still at Lake Muarry and still eating fish, the way they having been doing over the years. Had those recommendation been implemented, where would these people be resettled? Would the country have enough funding to supply the Kunis and Yongoms with tinfish? later..mangitbay

http://www.irinnews.org/report.asp?R...ctCountry=IRAQ http://www.world-aluminium.org/envir...lth/index.html http://www.alzheimers.org/unraveling/09.htm - this page never mentions aluminium as the cause of alzheimers Lots of people have been using aluminium wares for decades, especially in 3rd world countries - asia, africa, etc. |

Qualifications ? papers ? Nobel Prize ? No its all old wives tales. The Alzheimer's story is a mistake that has become an common myth, that came about from a statistic corelation between Alzheimer's and aluminum in samples of brains from Alzheimers sufferrers . Statistical correlations do not prove the fact, and it turns out that that aluminum was from contamination from preservatives used to preserve brain samples! Aluminium is in your food anyway, and tiny bit of dissolved Al from the pot is too tiny to worry about. |

Steam
Why would anyone want to boil there food in the first place?
Steam it! Its hotter, faster and locks in the goodness! Get a steel wok and a bamboo basket and steam the whole meal in minutes. Oh wait...this was about aluminum pots being poisonous. Even using an aluminum pot to produce the steam you dont have to stir the pot causing microscopic abrasions and the particals getting into your food. Fish and veggies are delicious steamed. But what about other meats? Steam it! Wrap the meat in banana leaf or corn husk with seasonings. When its almost done open it and allow to cook. This takes practise to learn how to wrap it so it can be opened later. Of course you can BBQ meats but this is another way to poison your self and your family. Nothing is perfect. |
