The Tufi Cultural Festival

This will also be the third time for the Tufi Cultural Festival to take place since its inception three years ago.

Coordinator for the Tufi Festival Show, Abraham Yariyari said they expect this year’s show to be bigger and better.

“We are expecting a huge turn out this year from visitors and especially tourists,” Mr Yariyari said.

He said there will be traditional dances, arts and crafts displays put on by various tribes of cultural groups within Tufi area.

“This will be a three-days show of a lot of traditional performances, and massive massive displays of the rich tapa cloth designs and different crafts, artefacts and demonstration such a traditional wild pig net making, making traditional tapa designs, clay pot making and many more,” show coordinator Yariyari said.

A total of 21 singsing group including the Kevara group from Kokoda will be showcasing their different style of dancing. Groups of performing tribes from within Tufi will include Wanigela known for their traditional clay pot making, the Maisin area where tapa is originated from and the Meniafia just to name a few.

Guests include Sir Paulias Matane who will be officiating at the show, media invites, officers from the Tourism Department and TPA including Lady Carol Kidu and Sir William Bill Skate.

“We’ve seen benefits and a lot of potential in the annual staging of the show. We hope that in the next two to three years or so – we will have made Tufi as of the tourist destinations in the country.” Mr Yariyari said.
