The Buffy remake movie team is looking for a new screenwriter after knifing the previous writer Whit Anderson as she fell far short of expectations:

This setback on the Buffy remake is a Christmas present for long time Buffy fans who did not want the Whedon-less remake to be made from the get-go.

Although Buffy ended after seven seasons, it has continued (canonically) in comic book form with season 8 between 2007 and 2011 followed by season 9 in late 2011.

Any Buffy fans (including myself) who were not fortunate enough to collect these comic book series, I am hereby happy to inform you that season 8 has been released in motion comic form on DVD.

Whilst the comic book series of season 8 is made of 40 issues, the motion comic is based on the first 19 issues. Well not quite halfway through but still substantially better than nothing.

8 x 4 – The Long Way Home Part IV:
Conclusion to The Long Way Home.
Pretty good conclusion as Buffy leads her fellow Slayers to rescue Willow from the Initiative.
As to what happens to Ethan Rayne here really depends on one’s point of view. It’s either good riddance or a pity that a long –standing villain has finally come to an end.

Appropriately Buffy got referenced in The Vampire Diaries.

In 3.6 Smells Like Teen Spirit, Damon jokingly called Elena, Buffy.

8 x 5 – The Chain:
On first viewing it seemed somewhat confusing on what was actually going but having another look at it had a little bit more understanding to it.
The story is told through the narration of a slayer who acted as a decoy for Buffy against the demon Yamanh.
Despite it being initially confusing it does present a moving story about the girl (who is also voiced by Kelly Albanese which means that Buffy and the girl sound alike) and the lesson it presents that even if not everyone knows one person’s name the only person that matters knows it and that is the person him/herself.
The Chain was dedicated to the late Jamie Kleinman, a TV executive that Joss Whedon had admired and work with and it is very good as a dedication.

8 x 6 – No Future For You Part 1:
This is the beginning of a Faith story marking her debut this season. Also making his debut this season is Robin making a brief appearance. Buffy and Xander also make a brief appearance in this predominantly Faith episode and it remains to be seen whether they have a greater part in subsequent parts of this story.
Giles approaches Faith for one final mission with the promise that she can retire to anyplace she likes.
Her mission is to kill a rogue Slayer. As the rogue Slayer Lady Genevieve is an aristocrat, Faith has to go through certain training in order to attend Lady Genevieve’s party to kill her and yes you guess it the training is of a My Fair Lady nature.
Quite fun trying the My Fair Lady etiquette on Faith and interesting how it goes on from here.
A crossover with Doctor Who here with a cameo from the Tenth Doctor and Rose.

8 x 7 - No Future For You Part II:
The episode begins with a flashback of Buffy and Faith fighting each other in the season 3 finale Graduation Day. As this was originally a comic book, the clip from that TV episode of course could not be used. Instead what is presented here is an illustrated re-creation of that scene and it was nicely done.
Buffy in the present is completely absent. Instead we have Dawn and Willow talking about Dawn’s situation when they were interrupted by Renee. Renee seems to be developing into significant character.
Faith begins her mission at Genevieve’s party but unfortunately it seems ill-fated almost from the moment she entered the party leading to an ominous cliffhanger of what Genevieve intends to do with a certain queen.

No Future For You Part II:
The DVD trivia notes shown during No Future For You Part II stated that Dawn unknowingly invited the vampire Harmony into her house in the season 5 episode Real Me.

I don't think "unknowingly" is the right word for it. The way I remembered it is that Dawn and Harmony were having an argument with other people around, Dawn was in the house in the doorway and Harmony was outside. During this argument Dawn dared Harmony to come into the house and that was how Harmony got invited.
I donít think Dawn was really serious with that invitation and said it more as bluster. So instead of unknowingly perhaps it would be correct to say that she unwittingly invited Harmony into the house.

The trivia presented in No Future For You Part II seems to be about Buffy in general as it wasnít really relevant for this particular episode.

8 x 8 - No Future For You Part III:
Things sure really step up a notch with Buffy suddenly stumbling into Faithís undercover mission. Notwithstanding the flashback to Graduation Day in the previous episode, the fight between Buffy and Faith sure brought back memories.
The cliffhanger was sure horrifying and is reminiscent of one involving Giles in season 7.
