Star Trek Continues

Happy Birthday, Scotty:
Third vignette.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f82-hiS-m6k

Coincidentally I celebrated my father’s birthday yesterday before seeing this vignette of Scotty’s birthday and quite a present that Scotty got from his birthday a present that McCoy was not delighted by.
Very enjoyable vignette.

Quite intriguing story of how Star Trek came about including Gene Roddenberry had been a cop before quitting to work on television.
Leonard Nimoy is the only Star Trek cast member to be interviewed for this programme but I was impressed with Herb Solow when he recalled how hard he fought to get Star Trek made.
It was also intriguing to hear from Solow the measure that Bob Justman employed took to get Gene Roddenberry to deliver some scripts on time.
I perhaps heard it before but it was interesting to hear that Jeffrey Hunter did not return for the second pilot because he wanted to do movies instead of television.
Also interesting to hear from Roddenberry’s son Rod including how negative stories about his father, who is perceived to be like a god-like figure, humanised his father to him.
Somewhat fascinating about the technological innovation that were made because of what was on Star Trek.
The programme only looks at the original series and the first movie Star Trek: The Motion Picture. However the programme seems to ignore the existence of the animated series with it giving the impression that the next Star Trek that came along after the original series was The Motion Picture even though the animated series was sandwiched between them. Since Rod Roddenberry was on this programme he probably asked the makers of it to overlook the animated series since his father would not have made it if he had known that it would come back in live action form.

I should have mentioned before that the Quark pilot featured a scientist called O.B. Mudd obviously named after Harry Mudd from the original Star Trek.
Meanwhile the latest Quark episode that I saw was The Good, the Bad and the Ficus and it is a spoof on The Enemy Within & Mirror, Mirror which amalgamates the situations from those two episodes into this Quark episode.

The Ballykissangel season 4 finale is called The Final Frontier.
The episode was not about space travel although he did have a visiting UFO watcher.

The Final Frontier instead seems to refer to the marriage of Ambrose and Niamh as it reached its final end.

Michael Ansara has passed away.
Born on April 15 1922, Ansara is well known to Star Trek fans for playing the Klingon Kang. He first played Kang in the original series episode Day of the Dove (1968). He returned to play Kang, 26 years later in the Deep Space Nine episode Blood Oath, as he was one of three actors to reprised his Klingon character from the original series in Deep Space Nine, the others being John Colicos as Kor and William Campbell as Koloth.
Ansara played Kang one more time in the Voyager episode Flashback as he had appeared in Tuvok’s memory on his time on the Excelsior.
Ansara made another appearance in Deep Space Nine this time in the episode The Muse playing Jeyal, a husband of Lwaxana Troi.
Ansara is among a group of actors to appear in both Deep Space Nine and rival space station Babylon 5 playing Elric in the latter in the episode The Geometry of Shadows.
He was also someone who appeared in both Star Trek & Lost In Space playing The Ruler in the latter in the episode The Challenge.
Ansara was a guest star in three episodes and a director of another episode of I Dream of Jeannie. This is due to the fact that Jeannie was played by his then wife Barbara Eden. (In a case of sad timing, Eden’s I Dream of Jeannie on-screen husband Larry Hagman passed away just eight months previously.)

Other work included The Robe, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Ten Commandments (1956), Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea movie (also with then wife Barbara Eden) and then the TV series of it, The Man from UNCLE, The Girl From UNCLE, Land of the Giants, Mission: Impossible, Buck Rogers In The 25th Century and voiced Mr Freeze in the 1990s Batman animated series.
Michael Ansara died on July 31 2013 at the age of 91.

Star Wreck Asskicker 2: Dark Menace:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV5ZPDAyOA4

This film featured a parody on Picard called Licard.
Quite fun in a lot of places including its coda and good battle sequences and animation.

Star Trek: Phase II

Blood and Fire Part II:
Episode 5.
A very good conclusion to Blood and Fire and for this episode it guest starred TNG alum Denise Crosby.
In TNG, Denise Crosby played Tasha Yar. Here she plays her grandmother Dr Jenna Yar and this episode does not fail in making reference to the different generations of Yars.
There was some tragedies along the way but it sure provides a service in bringing about a very good conclusion to this story.

Star Wreck Asskicker 1 ½ Paskalasti:
A Star Wreck Asskicker movie which I saw on Youtube starting here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwuLBpQBjpw

Quite fun little film especially showing how competent Licard is in command.
The meaning of the word Paskalasti is revealed at the end credits and the end credits also has something funny during it.
