The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage:
The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage is the tenth Puffin eshort story celebrating Doctor Who's 50th anniversary in 2013 and featuring the Tenth Doctor.

Written by Derek Landy.

This story featured Martha as the companion. At least to me, the choice of Martha as the companion was quite unexpected as I would have expected the companion to be either Rose or Donna.

To be quite frank, Martha tends to gets overlooked when it comes to Tenth Doctor companions.

It is somewhat curious that Landy in his video interview about writing this story did not explain why he chose Martha but I can only imagine Freema Agyeman if she got told about this feeling very chuffed that Martha got chosen for this honour of this Tenth Doctor story for the said 50th anniversary.

This story has the Doctor and Martha arriving in a world in which fictional characters from Martha's childhood have come into life.

The premise of this story sounded very much like The Mind Robber.

In fact in the video interview Landy said he was told about The Mind Robber after he first submitted the proposal of his story.

So accordingly Landy had the Doctor mentioning his The Mind Robber experience to reflect on his present situation with Martha.

Quite surprisingly Landy incorporated references to a couple of Big Finish stories.

Very funny when the Doctor told Martha that he had once met Enid Blyton as he described her an odd woman with unusual ears.

Blyton incidentally got mentioned in the Tenth Doctor TV episode The Unicorn and the Wasp.

The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage is a very enjoyable story and despite similarities with The Mind Robber it is a very good story in its own right.

Saw CSI 15.11 Angle of Attack and had a Doctor Who reference when Morgan Brody (Elisabeth Harnois) mentioned a firm called Baker, Smith, Capaldi.

Of course this is a reference to Tom Baker (but not Colin Baker it seems), Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi.

BBC Radio 4 Extra will start broadcasting on October 10 the Fifth Doctor Big Finish story Demons of Red Lodge.

The scheduling of this story is quite unexpected as I was expecting BBC Radio 4 Extra would be continuing the trilogy that began with Heroes of Sontar.

Heroes of Sontar was on BBC Radio 4 Extra on September 26 and October 3 and I was expecting the next in the trilogy Kiss of Death but BBC Radio 4 Extra is putting on Demons of Red Lodge instead.

The Demons of Red Lodge and Other Stories Part 1 - The Demons of Red Lodge:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06gxdks

The Demons of Red Lodge is the first part of the anthology Demon of Red Lodge and Other Stories.

Featuring the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa and written by Jason Arnopp.

Intriguing the episode begins with the Doctor and Nyssa having no memory of how they got to where they are at the moment.

Interesting how things got develop from there on and harking back to an experience they had in the TV series.

The resolution however didn't really gel well with me but plays on well with the fact that neither the Doctor nor Nyssa are human, a key plot point of the episode.

39 x 4 - Before The Flood:
Similar in name to The Buccaneers 1.11 Before The Mast which I coincidentally saw after seeing this Doctor Who episode. In fact that Buccaneers episode also had floods in it.

After the reprise, interesting account from the Doctor about Beethoven which leads to him to play the guitar sequewaying with the Doctor Who theme and what a version of the theme that got presented here.

Here we meet Prentis a member of the Tivoli race when he was alive. Another member of the Tivoli race, Gibbis had previously appeared in The God Complex and only just got reminded of the Tivoli just a couple days before seeing Before the Flood from a matter that was not related to this episode.

In contrast to O'Donnell throwing up after his first trip in the TARDIS, O'Donnell reacted with glee from this trip.

Nice to hear O'Donnell mentioning Rose, Martha and Amy as well as Harold Saxon and events of Kill The Moon. However she also mentioned the Minister of War something that the Doctor and the viewer do not know about. Obviously we will find out about the Minister of War later on in the season.

Funny when O'Donnell said about how she once handled a colleague who disagreed with her.

Clara sure reacted terrified about the possibility of the Doctor dying while she is around saying he can die after she is gone. I usually stay out of the way Clara haters but this reaction from her sure justified their view of her and does not do any favours in their eyes.

O'Donnell should really have listened to the Doctor and stayed in the TARDIS because it was very very sad that she got killed and become a ghost.

What a sight of the Fisher King as it is a terrifying monster to see.

What a revelation that the ghost Doctor turns out to be a hologram just like one of Clara in the previous episode Under The Lake.

What an interesting question the Doctor posed at the end on who program the ghost Doctor on what to say reflecting what he said about Beethoven at the beginning as he postulates Bootstrap Paradox. No doubt this question would also be answered later on in the season and it is something to look forward along with the Minister of War.
