At the end of the weeklong awareness and training, the enthusiasm was still there with participants asking for more training in specific areas such as operating a guesthouse or guides/porters. The scenic Windy Lodge at Mirane, about 20 minutes along the Gumine road overlooking Wara Simbu and the rolling green hills provided the perfect host for our closing kaikai in true Simbu style.

Facilitator Flora Gutierrez stresses a point at the workshop in Kundiawa.

As part of the awareness program, all provinces will at least have two billboards with their tourism icons. Simbu’s will read “Welcome to Chimbu home of Mt Wilhelm – tourism is everyone’s business, look after your tourists”.

As its contribution to tourism development in the province, the town authority has agreed to waiver the fee for the billboards to be erected in town. The first one will go up in the next few days at the Yuai Market junction, which leads to…whereas but Mt Wilhelm.
