The Goldie Barracks main access road, the geotextile and road base being laid and the wearing course is being laid. Drainage refurbishment had begun and the new culvert is under design.

Rifle Range access road, 300m of initial grading and patching has commenced whilst more work is required to improve drainage and road shape.

For the Rifle Range Refurbishment, the fill being taken out of the culvert site has been taken out to the range for the preparation of the stop butts.

Geoff Dunning, Staff Sergeant in charge of the medical Centre said the work continues on the clean up and repair of the medical centre.
Anthony Monagle, Artificer Sergeant Major, in charge of workshop said the maintenance of the Goldie River barracks vehicles has also been completed.

The playground and the picnic point is undergoing a facelift.

The environment health and first aid training had begun, two courses had completed by 28 people from Goldie community, whilst two more courses to be run in the next three weeks.

Head of the Australian Defence Force in PNG, Colonel Dougall McMillan said the joint exercise, funded under the Defence Cooperation Program, will provide a boost to facilities and improve living conditions for soldiers at PNG’s premier training facility.

“The upgraded facilities will improve the overall living conditions for the soldiers, and these improved facilities will have a positive affect on morale,” Colonel McMillan said.

“This is the second joint activity between the two engineering groups, following last year’s project to revamp Igam Barracks in Lae to improve soldier’s accommodation and other facilities.”

Colonel McMillan said the two month project reinforces the strong links that exist between the ADF and the PNGDF.

“Australia shares close defence links with PNG, and this joint exercise provides an opportunity for skills transfer and exchange of technical expertise, as well as promoting friendship and understanding between the two forces.
