Long Term Development plans lacking in PNG

A country without vision, does not know the direction to head towards, and that is what is happening in PNG.

In order for a country to move forward, it has to have a vision to aim towards. Without a goal, it is like a dog chasing its own tail and is unable to.

Governments long term strategies for development is non existent with knee jerk policy reactions, dictated by situations that the country faces. I believe, when the government starts to approach each action guided by a broader vision, will the country be able to move forward.

For instance, the recent conflict between the Taris and people from the Western Highlands, is just an ice-berg, in a whole lot of issues that the government and people in authority have been sitting. This is not to justify the actions of those people who acted like primitives with no respect for life, but, the system has contributed to some of this actions.

All along, there has been squatter problems, with the influx of squatters outweighing the actual working population in Port MOresby. What has been the main cause of the influx, and should the government set up laws to counter that kind of influx. It should either counter that kind of movement with, rural based development, to reduce people from migrating to the city to seek basic services, or to set laws which minimise influx of squatters. This hasnt been done, and Port Moresby is sitting on a time bomb which will explode one day, and when it does, it would be far worse than what we have experienced between the Taris and Western Highlanders.

I believe, the only way to approach each issue one at a time and enourage economic development in our country is when, politics is removed from Papua New Guinea.
