Telikom Supports Engineers Cause
PRESS RELEASE - 1st August, 2003.
Telikom Managing Director, Mr. Martin Veisame today presented the Institute of Engineers a cheque of K10, 000 at Telikom Rumana in Port Moresby. This money will be used to support IEPNG’s efforts in promoting engineering excellence in Papua New Guinea.
Mr. Veisame, a Senior Engineer himself and a member of IEPNG said, “Companies like Telikom and the government invest millions of kina in projects run and operated from start to finish by engineers”. This gift was Telikom’s way of saying, “keep up the good work”. Mr. Veisame further stressed that he appreciates the tremendous progress made to promote the profession in the last few years. Mr. Veisame invited other major technology companies to support the profession.
Telikom PNG’s financial support to IEPNG goes towards supporting its efforts to Establishment of the Technical Reference Library in Port Moresby, Poverty alleviation Projects initiatives of IEPNG engineers, Engineers Technology magazine soon to be produced bi-annually, 2004 Engineers Directory, Monthly Newsletter, Website development and Continuing Professional Development programs.
In accepting the cheque, Dr Atkins, President of the Institution Engineers thanked Telikom for their continued support. Dr Atkins said, “ Major development projects in Papua New Guinea are developed by engineers. The quality of work reflects the quality of engineers we have”.
Dr Atkins further stressed, “ I would like to salute our engineers through out the country for outstanding work and commitment in this tough times. By world standards, the standard of engineering work undertaken by our engineers in PNG is commendable”.
