Krangket Island Resort

Have you wished to stay on a remote tropical island in paradise? This is your chance. The Krangket Island Lodge offers totally uncommercialised self-contained accommodation in what must be described as the most beautiful setting in the Pacific, featuring traditionally styled lodges with all the creature comforts of home!

Krangket Island is situated in the Madang Harbour just 5 minutes by speedboat from the centre of the township. The Lodges are sited on a peninsula overlooking the volcanic island of Karkar and on the other side, the crystal clear waters of the Krangket Lagoon, ideal for swimming, snorkelling or simply relaxing. All Lodges have private white sand beaches. There is a natural tropical rain forest adjacent to the Lodges with bush tracks leading to more isolated beaches.

Each Lodge has comfortable bedding for up to 4 guests a private bathroom with septic toilet system, hot and cold water, a kitchenette equipped with large refrigerator, gas stove, all cooking equipment, plates and cuttlery, all you need to bring is your food! The large screened verandah has a lounge setting and there are additional garden chairs for relaxing in the grounds, plus a BBQ which can be fired by the staff. The Dum Clan who own the Lodges can obtain fresh fish and crayfish and your food order can be placed at the time reservations are made. All provisions will be ready on your arrival.

Other activities include diving, windsurfing, snorkelling, catamarans, boating, fishing and tours to nearbyvillages in the Madang Province.

The Krangket Island Lodge project was sponsored by the Madang Visitors Bureau and the Madang Resort Hotel for the Dum Clan, the traditional owners of the land. Apart from the Lodges, there is dormitory accommodation available, a large, well-kept reserve for picnics, a wharf and excellent swimming available in Krangket Lagoon. The Modang Visitors Bureau will shortly sponsor similar lodges in the Madang Province.

Include the Madang International Resort Hotel, Pine Lodge Mountain Resort at Bulolo, Melanesian Explorer Cruises of the Sepik River and the Trobriand Islands, Madang, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Diving and Melanesian Flying Safaris.

Krangket Islands Resort

Scuba Diving can be arranged through either Jais Aben or Madang Diving specialists, Snorking equipment is available from the Lodge, small boats and canoes can be hired, tours to villages can be arranged through the Madang Resort Hotel.

Fishing excursions can be arranged at the Lodge. There are pleasant walks on Krangket Island to the main village, or to other Lagoons on the Island, there is also a beautiful rainforest with tracks.

Krangket Island Accomodation

Could someone please clarify for me what is actually meant by the accomodation rate of K 350 per week to stay at Krangket Island. Is this per person or per lodge? Also what forms of payment (i.e. Credit Card, Cash, Cheque or Money Order) are available to secure a lodge

Any help you provide is much appreciated

- Chris

I have sent off an email and will advise as soon as I receive the information.

The response to my email was to contact the Madang Tourist Bureau for further details :

I have just phone up to find out their email address but no-one answered. Perhaps they do not work on Saturday's.

I will keep trying for you and will inform you further as soon as I know myself.

PS This is the email I received back after I enquired on your behalf :

The Madang Visitors Bureau are the organisation that lists the Lodge. The rate I believe is weekly, it has four/six beds and is very basic.
