The launching of the Miss PNG is usually in April and during this time of the year is when the young women starts their fundraising activities. So far I haven't read anything about it in (online) the Post Courier, The National or PNGBD.com.

I was was just wondering if there's going to be one this year because, the girls last year had put in a lot of effort in raising more than K250,000.00 for the PNG Red Cross Society programs.

Please advise if I have missed something!

Cheers,
Former Miss PNG 2002

Four girls have entered the Miss PNG Quest for 2004. The girls have been challenged to use the money raised last year as a benchmark for what they themselves should be able to raise. Last year K458,000 was raised by the contestants for the work of the Red Cross in PNG.

TRADITIONALLY THE PNG RED CROSS ORGANIZES THE MISS PNG QUEST; AS I KNOW: ARE THEY TIRED NOW? Let me know here in Germany, too, please.

Question: is there any other way to have a Miss PNG Quest? Another sponsor for such a beautiful and nice event? Why does it has to be always through the Red Cross? Any comment on that for my better understanding?

It is great news to hear and read about it and thanks for the url to the site you posted here. Well I wish the girls all the best and hope of them break last year's record of current Miss PNG 2003 - Cynthia Asi who raised the total amount of more than K150,00.00.

All the best Cynthia in your reign as Miss PNG.

Firstly it is important to understand that the "Miss Papua New Guinea Red Cross Quest", is a major fundraising activity of the Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society.

The Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in March, 1976. This Act provided the Society with certain mandates to provide community and humanitarian services to people in great need of help after their normal lives have been affected by certain disasters.

These mandates provided for the provision of:

(i) furnishing of aid to the sick and wounded, irrespective of nationality;
(ii) rendering of assistance to victims in any public disaster or needs; and
(iii) improvement of health, prevention of diseases, and mitigation of suffering.

Hope the above answers your question.

Cheers,
meripng...
