Hello Everyone,

I am doing some family history research on my grandparents who lived in Papua pre-WW 2 and owned a plantation called THE PALMS at Hisui.

I THINK someone from the ROSSER family may have bought the plantation form my grandmother in about 1948 - or possibly 1947.

I am wondering if anyone knows about or knows of an Allan M Sinclair, his wife Margaret; the plantation THE PALMS; and what may have happened to the plantation.

Thank you if anyone can help out,

Al

Hi Al,
Nikki believes that her father's brother, Harry Rosser, bought The Palms ,in Rigo Sub-District, circa 1946. Property later re-named, to what I can't remember. Plantations in the area included Gobaragere, Sivigolo and Mirigini.
Good luck,
JA

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply.

I am wondering if we are talking about two different plantations perhaps?

The plantation I am researching is the one called, or was called, THE PALMS in the Hisiu area, as per the attached map.

Am I right in saying that the Rigo District is south-east of Port M, as opposed to The Palms which is north-west of Port M?

As I understand it, Hisiu is in the Kairuku-Hiri District?

Any further clues please?

Hi Al,
Yes, I erroneously confused The Palms with Harry's plantation in Rigo. It does appear that he bought The Palms circa 1946.

Hi John,

Excellent news sir!!!

Don't suppose you guys can shed any light on the transaction can you?

Like how Harry came to buy the place, why he bought it; what sort of condition it was in when he bought it; how much was paid; who handled the transaction - i.e. legal firm, solicitor, etc.

We are keen to know as much as we can about the place as we can, purely from a family history POV. It would also be nice if we could tell our ailing mother how this chapter of her life ended.

Is the property still in your family's hands ?

feel free to shoot me a PM if you would like to take this conversation off-line and save clogging this valuable space up.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Al
