My Journey 9 (MORESBY 1962)

Image 1..Steamships original Department Store and Administration Office on Champion Parade in 1962.Directly opposite Steamships was the receiving shed for Mandated Airlines.Facing Steamships,to the left, was the entrance to The Papua Club and on the corner of Champion Pde and Hunter St was Ela Motors which I believe was the only petrol supply in central Port Moresby.Facing Steamships to the right were two seperate residences.Later on the same site Burns Philp constructed two brick block buildinds one of which was the Ray Gorris Sports Store..On the corner was the Moresby Hotel (Bottom Pub) with the infamous SNAKE PIT bar area underneath.

Image 2..Port Moresby Main Wharf with "Sling-Loading" ships before the advent of Containers.
Image 3..Ela Beach in 1962.
Image 4..Koki in 1962.
