Moving to Port Moresby soon....

Thank you, aussie, for setting this forum up. Thanks also to the other ex-pats who are willing to offer advice and guidance. My wife and I are likely to be moving to POM later this year, for a period of three years. We will have secure accommodation provided on Lawes Road. (Not sure of which apartment block it is, but I'm assured that it is safe, secure and comfortable.) we are both going in with eyes wide open, and looking forward the experience - including the positive and negative aspects.

The general theme that I am picking up from this thread and others is that, while POM has its challenges, one can mitigate these by being careful, aware of one's surroundings, and planning local travel and activities carefully. Am I right in this?

Also, I note that this thread started in 2001. Are any of the longer-servers willing to comment on whether the overall situation (security, facilities, etc) has improved or worsened over that period, or is it much the same?

I would appreciate any feedback.
