So we decided that we are defenitely coming to the South Pacific! We have to stay in PNG for 2 - 3 months and then move on to Fiji where we'll be for the next 3 years! I'm very excited - thanx to everyone for all the advice. What are good hotels to stay in Port Moresby??

Thumbs up living in PNG <Port Moresby>

Hi there Nina you go ahead & follow your husband to PNG, & enjoy everybit of your stay there. And It's true like everywhere you go,you will see crime & etc.
PNG has it problems, but it's one of the most beautiful places in the world.People are great, just get to know some & you will be fine.
but stay away from the trouble spots.
If you like seafood there's always plent at the markets & always fresh.
Enjoy your time in beautiful Paradise...
ps take care.
I will be in Port Moresby at end of July maybe I'll show you around.

Hotels to stay in POM:

For longer term accomodation I would go for the Airways Hotel - its a 15min drive from the "CBD" but has everything you would need and is right beside the airport. It is a member of the boutique Hotels group and is a true 4 star offer - definitely the most expensive / exclusive hotel in PNG.

If you want to stay in town go for the Ela Beach Hotel, its overlooking the ocean and has a beautiful pool, beauty salon and good restaurant / bar.

The other options are Holiday Inn Hotel and the Crowne Plaza Hotel as well as the Gateway Hotel. All three are OK, but IMO, the first two I have mentioned are better positioned or offer better services.

Hello eveyone.
I enjoyed reading your discussions. I think its very helpful and useful. I am curious myself because I might be moving there for 6 months in June. I am a 30yo guy though, but it would still be nice to know whether it is less easy town only for women or for men as well? I lived in NZ and visited Fiji once for three weeks, but I am originally from Europe. How bad is POM compared to Nandi for example? I do not have driving licens. Would it be complicated to get to work every day on foot? (I would work in the UN)
