Talking Bulae 1964-1970

Hi all,

I lived in Lae from 1964-1982 and went to Bulae and L.I.H.S.

Was good friends with the Vollerts, Pelgens, Jacobsens and all involved with the pony club.

I di all my primary school from pre-school to grade 7 at Bulae and can still see the school grounds clearly even though I left a while ago.

Well just wanted to drop in and say hi

Ron MIENTJES

Your name rings a bell however I cannot put a face to the name, time has certainly dimmed my memory. I was at Coronation Drive from 1964 (prep) until 1970 (grade 6). Was then dispatched to boarding school. My younger brothers Craig and Mark both went to Bulae. Certainly knew a lot of Bulae kids, particularly when the family lived at the end of Cassia Crescent, near the Round-Water. We maybe played football against each other out at Bugandi High? I certainly recall Keith Farrelly, John Stewart and Peter Kelly who all lived nearby.

Bulae Memories

I remember a Roy Mientjes, he was in my year-Grade 6 in 1971. Is Ron his younger brother? Some other class mates were Susan Gray, Steven Docker,Tracy Phillpots, Margot Smith, Ian Walker, Daniel Benett,Dennis Lee Sye, Alan Hall, David Proposh and many others whose names elude me.As for me, does any body remember Chris Webster? Don't say you have forgotten me, its only been 33 years since I " went finish"

Webby,

I think I remember you. I actually replied to one of your posts late last year. I was in the same class as all the people you mentioned. I then went through boarding school with Steve Docker in Brisbane though lost contact after senior when I returned to PNG.

Does any one remember any more Bulae teachers? I was there 65-71. The headmasters were Mr Hooper and Mr Thompson. In Prep I had Miss Legar ( not sure on the spelling ) Grade 1 was Miss Burns ( very intimidating !) Grade 3 Miss Smith ( a lovely lady ) Grade 4 our class was HUGE 40+, I think and we had a Miss Belcher. Not sure about the spelling there either. We also had a Mr Croft about that time. I guess I miss out on the Bulae Babies as we went finish in May 71, almost half way through my
last year.
We spent the next 6 months in Europe, and starting grade 7 in Lawnton State School was a bit of a culture shock after such a holiday.

Hi Pauline

I sort of remember you... Rachel probaly will, i'll ask her when i see her next, she lives here in melb just up the road from me
Rachel...spent quite a few tears as a phsychatric nurse she married had two boys ...Calvin-12, Jay-8 > got divorced... lives with partener and has two more children... Mitchel-4, Kelly-2 (girl ).

I hope to find some photos soon and will put them up
i'm also on the hunt for any photos or documents from Lae... Because when we 'went finis' from Port Moresby the shipping container carring all our belongings got flooded and all our photos from 10 years in PNG got ruined and i now want to try to rebuild some of those years.
this site is fantastic and im sure we will be able to keep our memories alive through each other into our old age....
I also hope to be reunited with some friends over a beer or two...
I drink San Miguel when ever i can, SP no longer exists...Shame!

Thanks for the reply lets all keep talking...
