The High Commissioner's tour continued to Alotau on Tuesday where he had a meeting with the Deputy Governor Hon Tom Cameron and Provincial Administrator Mr Henry Bailasi. The High Commissioner also met with the Provincial HIV/AIDS committee at the Napatana Lodge to get an insight on how the HIV/AIDS crisis was been tackled in the Milne Bay Province before flying back to Port Moresby.

Speaking on his return, the High Commissioner said the welcome he had received in the Trobriands was the warmest of any in his travels around PNG. The islands are clearly experiencing the problems of excessive population growth, with pressure on the land, and lack of job opportunities for school leavers. The people need support for their many community development projects. The British High Commission were now looking at how best to support some of these projects.

The meeting with the Milne Bay Provincial Aids Committee revealed the huge challenges of spreading HIV/AIDS awareness throughout the many inhibited and remote islands of the province.
