G'day Buck,

My understanding is that LTCOL Bishop was the first CO of Igam Barracks and LTCOL Harrington took over from him.

Got onto Google Earth yesterday and googled to Igam Barracks, alot more houses around the University.

Cheers

Before the other families arrived there was just me and Mark(or could be Marcus(not to be confused with the Gully's; Sean and Marcus)) His father was the senior ranking commissioned officer, thats all I can remember. They occupied the very last house as you head toward the church. They would have left before Igam Primary opened as I cant recall him being there. The possibility is that his father handed over to your father when he arrived.

Heres a little something to take you back in the interim.

Great fun reading this thread, it brings back some fond memories
My Sister and I attended Taraka primary and lived in Igam Barracks
in the mid 70's we were there for nearly 3 years, I was only about 7-9 at the time
most of my memories revolve around riding my motorbike
Also setting up our houseboy, John's wedding at our house.
a flood of the Barracks, Dad rebuilding an old MG car, trick or treat, playing soccer.
actually when I think about it, I remember more than I thought
Good times

Shane Freer and sister Tara Freer

Lae High School

Hey San,
My name is Greg Cannon. I went to Lae High in 70 and part of 71. Everyone called me "Yank" because I was American. I remember the Hughes family and actually had a crush on your sister, Sian. People I remember were Winnie Wong, Glennis Johns, Albert delaCruz, John delaCruz, Phillip Coleman, Anne Wallace. I live near Atlanta, GA in the U.S.A., but have fond memories of Lae and happened to stumble on this website. My parents were missionaries who lived on Boundary Road.

Lae High

Hi Greg,

I remember you!! You played basketball and I recall playing at Lae High for sports. I think I just sort of stood around and you cleaned everyone else up.
Good to hear from you. I will let my sister (Dr HS Lauw) you got in touch. If you send me a message - I can send you my email address.
Regards
San
PS do you have any photos of Lae High - they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth

Hey San,
Nice of you to reply. I don't have any pictures, other than one that Sian gave me while in school. My email address is ACS1Coach@msn.com. Keep in touch.

Greg
