450 graduate from Kila Kila Secondary

Over 450 students graduated today (December 9th, 2003) from Kila Kila Secondary School (KKSS) with certificates in grade 10 and 12.

It was the 38th graduation for grade 10 and the 4th for grade 12 students since the inception of the education reform system four years ago.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Sir John Guise indoor Stadium with more than 1000 people including parents and guests in attendance.

Kila Kila Secondary is consisted of three grade 12s and eight grade 10s and is one of the secondary school with most students in the higher grades.

The graduation started at 9.00 am with a graduation march by grade 10 and 12 candidates accompanied by their class patrons. The singing of PNG National Anthem and Pledge followed soon after that with the invocation by the Deputy Principal-Administration Mr Pala.

The Head boy of the school Yomsan Sandy made the opening remarks soon after that which was followed by the address from keynote speaker and the main guest Dr Thomas Webster.

The presentation of non-academic awards took place after that followed by the principal’s address and academic and dux awards presentation.

The higher school certificates were presented soon after the short speech from Rarua Gamu, Chairman of the KKSS Board of Directors.

Head Girl Rose Kuabaal gave the closing remarks at the end of the presentation.

Of the 452 students graduating, 117 graduated with a grade 12 certificates while the rest (335) graduated with grade 10 certificates.

KKSS which comprises of 38 staff is a 15 minutes drive away from downtown Port Moresby.

BOG Chairman when speaking during the graduation congratulated the graduands of the day adding that they have the best students of 2003 and some of them have been the top academic students out of other secondary schools in Port Moresby.

“Among you are our best students who have done our school proud. You have done very well this year and I am proud to say that Kila Kila secondary have been the top school,” Mr Gamu said.

However, he challenged the graduating students about their future and to look to a brighter living putting into use the knowledge they have gained from their 12 years and 10 years in school.

“It has been challenging as a head boy of the school but we had a great team of hardworking prefects who were there to support us or we would not have done by ourselves,” Mr Sandy said.

“The students were very cooperative. They listen and they did what we told them which was rewarding. Looking back I can say that today is a moment for me and I ‘d like to thank everyone that has helped in making 2003 a good year for all of us,” head girl Rose said.
