Power of the Daleks (re-imagined):
Patrick Troughton's official debut story Power of the Daleks has been re-imagined and the first part has just been released:
http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2012/04...leks-part.html

The Doctor here is played by Nick Scovell who is also the project's adapter and director.

Guest stars includes Barnaby Edwards, Nick Briggs and Lisa Bowerman.

Quite a different setting from the original story with the name of the characters still remain and it is quite a good start to this re-imagined version.

The accompanying mini-Confidentials provides a fascinating look at the story's production.

The Curse of the Black Spot:
Found out after first seeing Curse of the Black Spot that Henry Avery was a real person.
What I didn’t realise until I read it in the Brilliant Book 2012 is that Avery’s name has been mentioned in Doctor Who before back in 1966 in the penultimate First Doctor story The Smugglers.
However in his interview in the said Brilliant Book, writer Steve Thompson wasn’t aware of The Smugglers when he wrote Curse of the Black Spot.
Curse of the Black Spot was therefore the unintended prequel/sequel to The Smugglers.

Notwithstanding returning companions and enemies, Curse of the Black Spot is really the first “new” series story that is a sequel to a “classic” series story.

Planet of the Rain Gods:

There was an alternate opening scene to The Doctor's Wife and it was presented in The Brilliant Book 2012 in the form of a three page comic strip called Planet of the Rain Gods.

While the opening scene that The Doctor's Wife ended up with on-screen was good, it is a pity what Planet of the Rain Gods had presented did not get to be filmed as it was quite enjoyable.

Best of the Monsters:
Last of the BBC America specials as the fans here talk about the monsters seen so far in the Eleventh Doctor era.
Quite curious that when it came to the Daleks only the male interviewees spoke about it. For some reason there were no comments from the female interviewees.
Nice overview of the monsters and kind of fun seeing Ask Whovians as fans at Comic Con were asked about certain questions about Doctor Who.

After ABC2 shows the last to date episode The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe, it will rerun the “new” Who episodes from the beginning, starting with Rose.
Not only that but it also be showing the corresponding Doctor Who Confidential Cutdowns to Rose onwards.

The ABC had previously shown the Confidential Cutdowns from the fourth season onwards so this would be the first time that the first three seasons is shown on the ABC.

Let's Kill Hitler:
The Brilliant Book 2012 made a little error in its synopsis of Let's Kill Hitler.

It says that the TARDIS travellers went to Germany in the middle of the Second World War. No they didn't as they came to Germany in 1938 the year before the war started.

Let's Kill Hitler was just shown on ABC2 this April 24. I am sure it was not intentional but it comes four days after Hitler's birthday on April 20.

I said in my original remarks about Let's Kill Hitler that it was a pity that William Hartnell did not have his own sonic cane. In another coincidence yesterday April 23 2012 was the 37th anniversary of Hartnell's passing.

From DWM #444:
Following on from Death Is The Only Answer last year 2011 comes the latest Script to Screen competition to make a Doctor Who mini-episode written by school children.

Whereas Death Is The Only Answer was shown as part of the last episode of Doctor Who Confidential, the latest mini-episode will be shown on Blue Peter (in the UK) later this year 2012.

Blink:
David Tennant gave the first hint of Blink in Totally Doctor Who 2.8 shown a couple of weeks before when he drew a face with the eyes shut. As Tennant says it would only make sense after seeing Blink.

From the Doctor Who News Page:
Peter Wragg has passed away.
Wragg worked on Doctor Who as the visual effects designer beginning with uncredited work on the first episode of the Tom Baker story Image of the Fendahl (1977) (he was also a Fendahleen [uncredited] in episodes 3 and 4) then credited work years later which spanned across The Visitation (1982) to the Mindwarp section of The Trial of a Time Lord (1986).

Other than Doctor Who, Wragg had also worked on Thunderbirds, the original Captain Scarlet, The Hound of the Baskervilles mini-series starring Tom Baker, Red Dwarf, Joe 90 & UFO.

Peter Wragg died on April 15 2012.
