Who can still remember Paul's Coffee Lounge in 1st Street, Lae ? Photo taken April, 2002

Yes, 'Paul' is still there for all the old timers looking at this pic, and for anyone new, if in Lae, he asks you to pop in for a cuppa:

lae memories

wow the more i look at these photos and
stories of LAE the more it knocks me out.Living there the best years of our lives , we were just kids and we were wild.It was extremeley safe, we did and went wherever we pleased .I hear that lae is extremely unsafe to walk around these days.could this be true?? Iam extremely sentimental about the university of technology as it is where i lived.I would love to spend the day there walking around, seeing my old home and school etc.Is this possible? I hear they dont let visitors in.Although i notice there is the "Rainforest Habitat" which is in the university" and that i can vist that with no problem.Thanx..warwick

The last time I was in Lae was a couple of years back but certainly had no trouble getting in the gate and or visiting the Rainforest Habitat that you just mentioned.

The road out from Lae to the PNG Unitech was in need of repair and I was glad I was driving a four wheel drive but had no problems.

Perhaps someone from Lae residents who are presently living there can help fill the gaps if something has changed.

I will also around also and will keep you posted.

These photos just made me feel sooo homesick! (I grew up in Morobe Province (so we were at Lae once in a while) and have been "back home" in Switzerland for a little over 6 years now...)
Thanks a lot for sharing the pics!

I was fascinated to see your pictures of modern day Lae. I lived there from 57 to 59 and then home on school hols until 1964. I came back for a short time in 67/68 and haven't been back since. Thanks for the photos it brought back a lot of memories.
