Launching of the Scouts – Sogeri Community School
THE Bristish high Commission, David Gordon Macleod will attend the launch of a new Scout troop, at the Sogeri Community School sponsored by the Scout Association of Papua New Guinea.
The initiative to establish the new scpit troop follows a joint visit by the British High Commissioner and the PNG Scout Chief Commissioner, Captain Sere Kala earlier this year. 21 Scout leaders have recently been trained and are currently running scout troops along the snake road corridor ranging from Sogeri to 17 Mile (Varirata National Park ro Hugo Canery). Sogeri community School alone has about 100 children attending the troops meeting and that is expected to rise to 200. Most of the 21 Scout Leaders are reformed youths who were involved in criminal activities in the Sogeri area. The British High Commissioner will host a barbecue to celebrate the event.
