Visa information - Attention all Travellers to PNG !

This information is a guide to all persons intending to visit Papua New Guinea under the following category.

Tourist/Visitor Entry Permit :

Application for permits may be made at PNG Overseas Missions or where there is no PNG presence, the nearest Australian Overseas Mission. Entry Permits can also be obtained on arrival into Port Moresby’s Jackson International Airport. Tourist/Visitor Entry visa is valid for 60 days and can be extended for a further 30 days. Only one extension is allowed.

Procedure and Requirements are as follows:
  • The applicant must complete a Request for Entry Permit (Form 1)
  • Evidence of return tickets
  • Payment of Tourist/Visitor visa fee = K75.00
  • Visa extension (30days) fee = K200.00

Visa Extensions:

Tourist visas can be extended for one month for a fee of K200.00. The immigration and citizenship office in the Central Government Offices in Waigani, Port Moresby, is (almost) the only place in the country where you can extend visas and the procedure is slow and frustrating - worth avoiding if you can.

The immigration section (tel 323 2010; fax 325 5206; PO Wards Strip, Waigani) of the Department of Foreign Affairs is on the ground floor of Moale Haus at Waigani. The office is open only from **9am ** to **noon** and you’ll have to battle hordes of agents who are on first-name terms with the staff. Extending a visa takes at 1 – 2 weeks, officially, but one fortunate traveller reports managing it in a day.

Travellers who have tried extending their visas by mail from other parts of the country have generally found it impossible and have had to trek back to Port Moresby to retrieve their passports. If you do intend to do this, use a courier rather than mail. The address is:

Immigration and Citizenship Division,
Department of Foreign Affairs,
PO Wards Strip,
Waigani, NCD.

If you have problems it might be a good idea to talk to an agent - see the Yellow Pages under Visa Services.

We would refer you a reliable and efficient licensed Agent, Ms Kaia Reva of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu office, telephone 308 7000 or fax 308 7001,
