Rotaract Club Of Port Moresby

Rotaract Club of Port Moresby is the latest Rotaract Club formed in PNG, after Rotaract Club of Huon Gulf in Lae. Currently there of two existing Rotaract Clubs in PNG, one being Port Moresby and the other Huon Gulf who are unfortunately inactive at this stage due to shortage of active members.

Rotaract Club of Port Moresby was an initiative of the President of the Rotary Club of Port Moresby, President Paul Constable, which came about the successful “Rotary Youth Leadership Award” program in 2000 and 2001.

Bringing the Port Moresby based participants together in July, brought about the formation of the Rotary Club of Port Moresby, thus holding their first official meeting on the 24th of July 2001, with the announcement of Wesley Supro as 1st President, John Benjamin as Vice President, David Munaga as Treasurer, Patricia Popei as Secretary and Maui Alaluku as Membership/Publicity officer.

Other members of the board announced were: Saima Sapias as Professional Development Committee Director, Barbie Bokuik as Community Service Committee Director and Denzil Agi as Club Service Director.

One other important position in the club that is not directly linked to the board is the Sergeant of Arms held by Theresa Vahau. The Rotary Club of Port Moresby officially chartered the club on Tuesday the 26th of February 2002.

Rotaract Club of Port Moresby has 16-charted members. There are a total of 23 members in the club, 13 yet to be formally inducted to receive badges to signify that they are official registered members to the club.

This will take place during the changeover ceremony at the end of June. The changeover ceremony is an official farewell to the current board members and welcoming the newly elect board members for the new Rotaract year.

In the club there are various committees formed. Initially there should be 4, however with the Rotaract Club of Port Moresby just new, there are only 3. The committees activated are ‘Club Service,’ ‘Community Service’ and ‘Professional Development’.

The other committee yet to be activated is International Service’. Every member is a member of one of the three active committees where the structure of the committees must be even in numbers.

Only members of the club and Rotarians can bring in guests and people interested in joining the club. Once the new interest has proven that he/she can be committed to the club and partake in most of club activities and meetings, then he/she will be eligible to become a financially registered member of the club and will look forward to be formally inducted.

Every new interest must attend 3 consecutive meetings after being brought in as a guest to qualify. New interests that have friends interested are most welcome to ask the Rotaractor that brought them in to have them introduced. The more the merrier.

At end of every Rotaract year, members must re-register and pay their dues for the New Year. Dues meaning club fees.

Rotaract Club of Port Moresby’s club motto is “DOMINATE THE BEST OF ALL OPPORTUNITIES TO DARE FUTURE CHALLENGES”. The meaning behind it is to ‘Take full control and grasp at every opportunity to achieve a mission, thus paving the way for others to follow. At the same time preparing oneself to challenge what the future holds’.

Yours In Rotaract Service.

Executive Committee.
Rotaract Club of Port Moresby 2001/2002.
