Tami Island

Surrounded by a series of large reef systems and located in the confluence of changing tide and ocean current movements, Tami Island provides an ideal location for scuba diving, game fishing and water sports (located 12 Km from Buki wharf).

The natural surrounds of white sandy beaches and coral reefs, the culture and variety of activities provide for all types of holiday makers. Two guest houses are operated on the island - Tami Island Guest House & Bamler Memorial Guest House. Barbecue facilities are also available for day visitors who wish to swim or snorkel and return to the mainland.

Huon Peninsula Lodge

Nestled in the sleepy station of Gagidu, Finschhafen, is the newly established Huon Peninsula Lodge. Visitors travel to Buki by the MV Gejamsao (Ferry) and then enjoy a ten minute PMV ride to the Gagidu Station.

Hire a 4WD and tour the countryside stopping at historical places such as the landing site of the first Lutheran Missionary Johan Frierl (1885) at Simbang. Drive past quaint Kotte villages and meet friendly locals or stop at a roadside market for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Tulip Guest House

This guest-house is idyllically situated at the end of the village and directly facing the beautiful Bau island. Managed by the village women's group, they offer traditional Morobean meals with home baked bread, local fruits and kulau (young coconuts).

The Lodge organises tours around the Wau/Bulolo area to attractions such as Aseki smoked bodies, gold dredges, hot springs, gold panning and butterfly farming. The Wau/Bulolo area has a cooler climate to Lae so visitors should pack long pants and other warm clothing to wear in the evenings when temperatures drop.

Valley View Guest House

Valley View Guest House is situated in the Wau town area and is surrounded by magnificent grounds. The guest-house is an old colonial home built by the Dutch in the 1950's and consists of 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, large living room and dining room.

There is also a gymnasium, swimming pool and barbecue area. Wau Ecology Institute/ Guesthouse

The Institute was established in 1971 and after 25 years of existence has become one of the leading research centres in PNG. The institute promotes biodiversity conservation and offers landowner and environmental awareness programs.

Surrounded by green forest vegetation and enjoying a cool highland climate, the institute's facilities consist of laboratories, a natural museum, insect and butterfly ranch, a zoo, teaching facilities and guesthouse accommodation for visitors.
