Wizard of Oz TV adaptations
There are upcoming TV adaptations based on the Wizard of Oz stories each coming from four different US networks.

- Emerald City (NBC) – a dark reimagining of The Wizard of Oz described to be in the vein of Game of Thrones
- Dorothy (CBS) - a medical soap inspired by the characters and themes of The Wizard of Oz.
- Warriors of Oz (Syfy)– a fantasy-action reimagined mini-series of the classic story.
- Dorothy Must Die (CW) – this would prove to be most controversial of the upcoming adapations. Dorothy Must Die is based on an upcoming novel of that name by Danielle Page and developed by Heroes/Touch creator Tim Kring.
Dorothy Must Die would prove to be the most contentious of the four adaptations as it is about an aged Dorothy who has ruled Oz as a fascist dictator for decades “when another young woman from Kansas is swept up in a tornado and magically dropped into this war-torn Oz, our hero discovers a revolutionary underground of witches and enchanted beings only to learn that she is destined to lead their people in the fight to reclaim Oz from a power-hungry Dorothy’s ruthless clutches.”

The Witches of Oz:

The Witches of Oz is a 2011 mini-series based on the Wizard of Oz story and here it has Dorothy becoming a successful novelist and finds that her books was based her suppressed memories of Oz.

The Witches of Oz is an absolutely disappointing mini-series based on mini-series including an unimpressive battle in the concluding episode and a very flat resolution.

Oz Reimagined: The Making of Emerald City:
This is a special that looks at the making of Emerald City ahead of the series debut.
Very interesting preview to the series of how the series revolves around the well known story of The Wizard of Oz and learning that all ten episodes of the series (as that there is all there is to it as the series has been knifed after one season) were directed by Tarsem Singh.

It seems that production executives did not quite appreciate Singh directing all the episodes of the series when they decided to end the series.

Emerald City

The Beast Forever:
Series opener.
Not a bad way to open the series which presents a different way to tell the Wizard of Oz story.
For instance instead of a house, Dorothy kills the Wicked Witch of the East with her car but here not everyone is happy that she killed the Wicked Witch.
Lucas is presented as the version of the Scarecrow here and that Toto means dog in the land of Oz.

Emerald City

Prison of the Abject:
Episode 2.
Second of two appearances by Fiona Shaw.
Coincidentally I began Channel Zero which has Shaw in a regular role.
In the teaser Dorothy tells Lucas the Knock Knock joke. Coincidentally I also saw Doctor Who 40.4 which is called Knock Knock.
Not bad episode when Dorothy sought the help of the witch Mombi (Shaw) which ultimately saw the latter making an unsuccessful attempt to kill her.
Quite a shock at the end.

Emerald City

Mistress – New Mistress:
Episode 3.
Not bad episode with Dorothy and Lucas goes to East’s castle and the revelation that she discovered.
Shocking at the end when Tip out of anger in being a young woman pushed Jack off the balcony to his death.

Emerald City

Science and Magic:
Episode 4.
Not bad episode about the mute girl that Dorothy and Lucas met.
Jack is still alive but he now has a mechanical body and gets sold as a servant.

Everybody Lies:
Episode 5.
Dorothy finally meets the Wizard at the end and what a surprise that he knows who she is.

Emerald City

Beautiful Wickedness:
Season 1, Episode 6.
Not bad flashbacks revealing the Wizard and Dr Andrews’ past on Earth.
Quite educational facts that the Wizard gives to that kid.

Emerald City

They Came First:
Episode 7.
Quite a surprising end when Dorothy and Lucas meets Glinda by what was said here.
