Growing your own

I'm keen to grow more fruit & vegetables in my garden. At present, there are banana, pawpaw & pumpkin leaves growing. Can anyone advise what else can be easily planted & grown successfuly in Moresby.

On a related matter, I have two types of cacti growing. Both look very ugly ; can they serve any useful purpose ???

Hi Cliffy,

We've grown some nice tomatoes, parsley, and some other herbs... give it a go - at some stage we had so much tomatoes we have to eat them every day :)

Aren't banana and paw paw a bit big? You must have quote a big garden there... they take at least a year or more to grow right?

I think just about any tropical plants will grow in moresby, just as long as they are well fertilised and watered - water is the biggest problem since it's so dry. Get some potting mix and you'll get rich fertile soil.

Good luck with your gardening, and please let us know how you go!
