PNG Tourism Promotion Authority web site launched: The new – look user – friendly PNG Tourism Promotion Authority web site was launched on Friday, October 4, at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby. Acting TPA Board Chairman Mr Michael Yai Pupu launched the web site in front of a good crowd of people including industry association members, operators, representatives from private and public sectors, and the media.

The launch of the web site allows the “Papua New Guinea Experience” at one’s fingertips anywhere in the world. Datec Web Development Section designed and developed the site.

Datec assisted greatly with its professional services in the development of the web site. Datec’s design and production team included Mr Morali Gudipati (site structure design and development), Mr Abraham Paichua (site editing and maintenance), and Mr Nasser Kaviani (overall project management, design specification, and implementation).

The PNG TPA team included Information Technology officer Mr Barry Ludin, Marketing Manager Mr Peter Vincent, and Chief Executive Officer Mr John Kambowa. Mr Kaviani described the web site as PNG’s “best salesman” who would be on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, without complaint.

Chief Executive Mr Kambowa said the web site would not only be for the benefit of PNG TPA and the tourism industry, but for PNG as a whole. “We endeavor to provide information that is easily accessible through current global development trends in our world of E-Commerce,” he said.

Following on from the launching, Datec will put in place tools to monitor the site for a few weeks. Relevant statistics will be compiled and presented to the PNG TPA for review and analysis. Using these statistics, there may be further site improvements to further its usability and efficiency in terms of information updates.

The PNG TPA is also appealing to the Government and private sector to assist in marketing and promoting PNG through the business card concept. Basically, how this concept works is to have Government and private sector print the PNG TPA address and web site address on the back of their business cards, as a novel way of marketing and promoting our country, Papua New Guinea.

The PNG TPA has introduced this business card promotional program as a national drive to sell PNG and our website. A number of organizations have agreed to participate in the business card promotion program.

They are Department of Agriculture and Livestock, PNG Harbours Board, Avis – Rent – A – Car, Hornibrooks Ltd, Department of Health, National Planning & Monitoring, PNG Forest Authority, National Research Institute, Small Business Development Corporation.

Others have shown interest in participating in the business card promotion. The next challenge now is to continuously update our web site. Please have a browse through and give us you feedback so that we can further improve.
