ARABICAS is a coffee roasting and packaging company that specialises in organically grown Arabica (high quality mild) coffee direct from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.

The company's associations date right back to the very beginning of coffee growing in Papua New Guinea when the first Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee was planted in the 1930's. Unlike other Papua New Guinea coffee companies, which predominantly concentrate on the export of green coffee beans, ARABICAS concentrates on roasting, grinding and packaging of high quality coffee.

Our factory is situated in the Highlands to ensure the freshness of our coffee.

ARABICAS purchases its organically grown coffee from more remote villages, as opposed to plantations. This means NO chemical pesticides, weedicides or fertilizers.

Hence their organically grown village coffee is as natural as coffee can be.

ARABICAS have very strict qualitycontrol systems and our expert roasters and tasters ensure that all our coffee is consistently of a very high standard.

Recently we have introduced the latest technology in packaging which ensures our coffee remains "roaster fresh". In fact we guarantee our coffee is packed and sealed within hours of leaving the roaster.

High quality Papua New Guinea grown coffee is regarded as amongst the best coffees in the world. Therefore our coffee is not only ORGANIC but we guarantee that our coffee is 100% HighQuality Papua New Guinea grown Arabica coffee.

WHAT IS ORGANICALLY GROWN ?

They use the words, Organically Grown, on our packaging to inform consumers that this coffee is grown and processed without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. Only natural methods are used.

They purchase their coffee from remotes areas of the Papua New Guinea (Niugini) Highlands from villages who still practise traditional methods of growing coffee. The coffee is then hand-picked and sun dried. These producers are encouraged to continue using traditional methods and many of them have joined our charter as they fully realise the ecological importance of such.

It is only from these areas that real organic coffee is still grown and processed in Papua New Guinea. Once growers expand from being 'small holders', commercial pressures eventually force them to use chemicals, synthetic fertilizers and potent pesticides which often force the trees into overproducing.

This starts a vicious circle where the farmers must continue to increase their useof synthetic pesticides and herbicides, because unhealthy trees are more prone to be attacked by pests and diseases.

Often the final result is extremely damaging to the soil sustainability, with products from these areas often being veryhigh in chemical and synthetic impurities.

The traditional methods of ORGANIC AGRICULTURE used in these remote areas maintain a healthy environment, and we feel produce a much superior quality coffee which is gaining worldwide acceptance and popularity.

'ORGANICALLY GROWN' SHOULD BE CERTIFIED

To ensure that a producers claim of "Organically Grown" is a true one and not misleading, the product should be certified by an independent organisation which is recognised by consumers, trade and industry.

You can be sure foods which bear the 'CERTIFIED ORGANIC' trademarks/symbols are not treated in any way with synthetic substances or dangerous chemicals during the growing, processing, roasting, grinding and packaging processes.

Certification involves inspection of all aspects of the growing, storage, manufacture, handling and packaging processes, to ensure they comply with the rules and regulation of the Certifying Agency. Members are subject to random tests and inspections, ensuring high standards are maintained at all times.

CERTIFIED ORGANICALLY GROWN IS THE CONSUMERS GUARANTEE AS TO THE INTEGRITY OF THE PRODUCT AND AS YOU CAN SEE, ARABICAS ORGANICALLY GROWN COFFEE IS CERTIFIED BY 'BIO FARM AUSTRALIA' AND THE 'NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE OF AUSTRALIA'. (NASAA)

OTHER BENEFITS

The altitude and climate from where they draw their coffee is ideal for coffee growing. This together with the natural environment results in their ORGANIC coffee having naturally lower levels of acidity and caffeine.

Thus ARABICAS ORGANIC COFFEE gives the added benefit of a speciality gourmet coffee, rich in natural flavour and aroma, withouth the undesirable high levels of potent chemicals or caffeine, making it safer and healthier for you to drink.

Independent Australian and European Laboratory analysts have tested this coffee, and it was proved to be naturally very low in caffeine.

The taste is full, mellow and rich.

THEY ARE PROUD TO SAY THAT ARABICAS BLUE MOUNTAIN COFFEE IS AS CLOSE TO PERFECTION AS ANY COFFEE CAN BE.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PACKAGING

ARABICAS pouches are made from an aluminium laminate which prolongs the shelf life of the coffee by acting as a barrier against moisture and oxygen penetration and locks in the coffee aroma.

In keeping with their company policyof environment friendly products, the dyes used are all attained from natural substances and therefore do not contain harmful heavy metals. Aluminium is of course recyclable. Thus the pouches are as "ecologically sensible" as current technology allows them at this stage to be.
