Shell supplies urgent jet fuel shipment to Jackson's Airport this morning
Shell PNG General Manager, Peter Walsh, said Shell had worked intensively to resupply Jacksons Airport with an emergency overseas shipment of jet fuel this morning in order to get the travelling public back on route to their Easter holiday destinations. “Overnight, our Shell laboratory in Australia completed its routine quality testing and our delivery trucks were on standby at the Shell Idubada Terminal to start delivering jet fuel to the airport following the fuel’s quality clearance,” Mr Walsh said.

“Airlines will have fuel available for use at Jacksons Airport later this morning and we are looking forward to passenger air services returning to normal.

“Shell sincerely appreciates the co-operation and patience of its airline customers and their passengers during this difficult period. We have also appreciated the assistance of the Department of Transport and Civil Aviation.

“The safety of aircraft and the travelling public is our prime concern.
“Our decision not to supply the particular March shipment of jet fuel from Napa Napa refinery was made because Shell was not satisfied that it met international aviation fuel specifications.

“Shell will only supply fuel that meets international aviation standards, our own strict fuel quality requirements and is fit for purpose.

“Rationing is in place at regional PNG airfields as stock levels remain critical while Shell completes its comprehensive resupply plan. “We are currently working through some logistical challenges but keeping our airline customers fully informed of the resupply schedule to help them minimise disruption to their passengers.”
