Sounds like I've found this thread a year too late, but I lived in Kerevat in 81 and 82. We lived in a house opposite the Wong's trade store and next to the Matthews. My parents (Ann and Brian Saffen) taught at the high school and I (Jack) and my sister (Holly) went to KIPS.
I'm currently teaching English in Shanghai and my family now lives in Perth, Australia.
I don't have any contacts with PNG any more but I did, completely by chance, run into the three O'Donahue kids in London in 1996. Unfortunately it was the day before I was due to leave and we didn't keep in contact.

JohnW
I was teaching at Vudal in 1976 to 1977 - acting principal was Harry Dunstan - his wife was teaching at the Kerevat Primary "A" School later inernational school - their daughter went to the same school - our visits to Kerevat were not frequent mostly to golf club on film nights - and to the Post Office to collect mail - Do you know of any teachers at KNHS in 1989 to 1990 I'm trying to locate someone expat married to a national - forgotten surname
Mr Biggz
M8 I remember his wife, man she was on heck of a cross patch. She used to give us a hard time... She never used to like us black kids. and we once blocked the exast pipe of her car with one small branch of a rain tree...
Mareuwa
I was a student at KNHS in 1981 and 1982. One of the couple who taught me there were the Keating. If anyone of you know their address or whereabouts, please post your response here so I can establish contact with them.
Thank you
Mareuwa
Mavarik74:k-ave, were you teaching politics to year 11 students in 1981? I could have been one of your students. Please acknowledge!!

Stumbled across this thread from Google Earth. Have picked up Belinda's name (I used to stay at your place a bit with Richard - you mother used to make me eat 3 beans and Richard 3 peas - funny what you remember - still don't eat beans). Also the Yip Sang/Ho Leongs - knew them all but was in the year with Leo - I remember a couple of fights where we got pulled apart by the teachers - god knows what is was about. Bronco.. can't quite pick up who you are. Paul Price passed away probably 15yrs ago with some sort of bone cancer. Used to stay in touch with his wife and 2 kids but its been years now. I was at what was then Keravat A along with Jenny Taylor, Donna Lucker, Peta Fraser?, Also remember Ray Laguna, the Webbs (all of them), Duggans, Rutledges, Tavilo Byrnes - have a school photo at home that I will have to pull out!
bronco0105

Hi,I was a Student @ KNHS, 1981-1982
peta
Hi mbdidiman - I am Peta Fraser! I can't believe this - I was hunting for info on Kerevat and up popped this thread - with my name mentioned! I went to Kerevat A with Jenny Taylor, Donna Lucker and Annie Yip-Sang! My sister Linda also went there. My parents Alan and Gwen Fraser came finish in 1969 and I haven't heard from anyone since then! We used to live opposite the school oval - my dad was in the forestry dept.
Spuds
My Parents were missionaries at George Brown High School while my sister and I attended KIPS in 1980-82.
My name is Osea Taito and my sister is Itu.
I remember some of my class mates.
Jack Saffen, the O'Donahue kids, Ryan and Tyson, the Taplins (Rebecca, Heidi and Matthew).
I found this string too late I'm guessing - although I'm still excited it registered on google!
:)
ntyro
Hello Osea, I remember well you and your sister. I taught you along with all the students you mentioned. My travels have taken me to many countries since then but I remember the little school at Kerevat fondly and all the children who went there. Lovely to hear from you.

I went to keravat primary for a while 1968/69 and remember a lot of the names mentioned, including the Webbs who also went to Sogeri school before moving to Keravat. My dad worked on the agricultural station ( L.A.E.S).I have uploaded a school photo taken with our teacher at the time, Mr. Harvey Do you recognise yourself or anyone else in it?
peta
Hi - I have this photo myself! I am Peta Fraser - 2nd back row and 5th in from the left. Your name isn't familiar, but my memory is practically non-existent these days! LOL Do you remember me??
MBdidiman
I have this photo also - teacher is Neil Harvey (same name as the cricketer). Mrs Lovelace was a teacher.
My father (Peter Byrne) was the Agronomist in Charge at LAES when you were there. I think I can name a few:
Back Row: ?; Annie YipSang (Ho-Leong);?;?; Neil Harvey
2nd back row: Margot Saville; ?;Leanne??; Donna Lucker; Peta Fraser; You?; ? Webb; another Webb girl; Jenny Taylor; ?
2nd row: Ray Laguna?; Leo Ho-Leong; Anton Webb; Rodney Byrne; John Webb;?
Front row: ?Duggan?; Richard Coote, me (Michael Byrne); Mark Byrne; Paul Price; last 2 are brothers I think but can't remeber the names - just remebered - I think they are the Rutledge boys
Must have been sports day as we all have sports uniforms on and all have shoes on!!
Peta - never responded to your earlier Post - I do remember you, we were in the same grade and I remember that I could never get my work as neat as your's, Donna's and Jenny Taylors no matter how hard I tried!
peta
Hello Michael - good to hear from you! I actually worked out who you were via Ethel Kong (nee Ho-Leong) who contacted me after I had written my original post. Ethel is Annie's younger sister (and was best friends with my younger sister - Linda). Linda and I have actually met up with Ethel a couple of times since then - it was wonderful to catch up after all these years!
Your memory is amazing - I could only identify a few of the faces in the above photo! It must be just my memory which has totally disappeared with age.............!
bronco0105
Hi one and all,
well talk about memories....i have that photo too even though it is not my best.....!!!!!richard coote here ,the one that looks .....well not pretty...haha.Have to agree with peta ,you do have good memories for names michael.my memory is not good but i thought there were some Gravenell children at that time??maybe not too!!
peta
Hello Richard! How are you?? I agree about the photo - always thought it made me look like I was sucking on a lemon! LOL. I can't help you with the name Gravenell - I honestly have trouble remembering names these days - the closer I get to 50 the worse it is getting! Michael will probably be able to tell you. It is SO good to hear from everyone - how has life treated you over the past "almost 40" years???
tanja meijer
Peta, I do remember you - I think you were a year ahead of me though - that is me standing beside you (6th) in the photo.
Michael - thanks for filling in the blanks. Fourty years on and my father still remembered your father. I have a few more names to add, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Back row 3rd ...would that be Jill Gravenall ?
2nd back after margot Saville....Sheryl Duggan, Leanne Royle
2nd row...was the guy at the end called Christopher? (possibly donnas brother)
bronco0105
Hello Peta,
I do remember you and a few of the others mentioned, mainly the boys...byrnes,webbs,duggan.,paul price...Sorry Tanja, but i do not remember you, but i do not remember a lot of them!!!
Recollecting those times brings a smile to my face ...they were great days.I now live in Brisbane,Cannon Hill, and talking about age......my oldest daughter is getting married this year in sept.,...how old do i feel???(50)..lol.
Regards to all
Richard
MBdidiman
Last guy, 2nd row - not Donna's brother, she only had sisters (June & Milly older and Natalie younger) - I was wondering where Timmy Ho-Leong was as he should be in this group but it doesn't look like him.
Will have to get Mum over to have a look and see if she can remember.
Rich - will have to catch up - we are only down the road at Manly West and Mum is in Wynnum.
peta
Why don't we ALL try and catch up at some stage? I live just north of Brisbane at Murrumba Downs. I'm sure my sister and Ethel Ho-Leong would love to be included as well. I can't guarantee I am going to recognise ANY of you though - we'll have to wear name badges! LOL
I'm with you Richard - I can't get the smile off my face each time I get an email from this site - makes me feel good all day!
patrickboothman
Four years too late for this thread but still!
Yeah I used to live in Keravat with my folks Clive (vice principal) Liz (science teacher) brothers Dan (correspondence school with ali) will (KIPS then RIHS) and Martin (KIPS).
Good to hear from ali and justin and the wongs! PNG was a the best place in the world to grow up! Have so many fond memories!
Justin Saunders getting mobbed by all the girls from KIPS (OK not many) at a trip to George Brown beach.
Spending PMV money on KOOL cigarettes, then getting caught.
After school going straight to the bend in the river for a swim.
Oh happy days!
Iam living with my second wife in Pembrokeshire Wales, we have a son and are in the process of getting a barn converted into a cafe! The plan is to do local seasonal and organic food.
Like PNG everything takes forever to happen out here!
Would be cool to here from anyone!
cheers patrick

G'day guys, especially Michael (never could get used to Peter). That is a photo that brings back memories, not enough unfortunately, and I am going to have to ask my sisters which one is which.
There is a Jill Gravenall but I thought she wore glasses, she had a sister (blonde) who should be in the photo. I think I was in Year six in that photo.
leanne
HI Guys My name is Leanne Royle and I think I am a few months too late with a reply but have only just come across this website. I went to Keravat Primary School from 1966 - 1971. I have been reading some of the forums and looking at a photo posted and I am in the photo. I remeber Peta Fraser - I was at your house when there was a big earthquake, Jenny Taylor, Magot Saville and more. We lived at Keravat High Schoool my Dad was a teacher there for a few years and became Head Master near the end of our time there. We all live on the Gold Coast, QLD now.
tanja meijer
Hi Leanne, is that you 3rd in the 2nd last row ?
leanne
Hi Tanja yes it is me 3rd in the 2nd last row. This is so amasing to find this website after all these years. My parents have the photo you posted and the one from the lower school as well. I have such fantastic memories of my childhood at that school and of all the times we had in New Guinea. How long did you stay there and where are you now?
MBdidiman
Hi all - Leanne, if you can upload the lower school photo we might be able to have a go at naming them - mighthave my younger brother Paddy, and sister Vonny, in it.
peta
Hi Leanne!!!!!!!!!!! I do remember you! And it is SO good to hear from you! My younger sister Linda is living on the Gold Coast at Southport so I am a fairly regular visitor down your way. We will have to organise some sort of get together! My memory is non-existent these days (I hate getting old...) and I am definitely going to need "name badges" - but how good would it be after all these years to meet up?! How has life treated you over the past 40 odd years? I am happily married (2nd time around) with a son of 20 and daughter 18. I'm recuperating at the moment from a hip replacement (long story) so your email couldn't have come at a better time! I've had a grin on my face since I opened it! :) I will reply at length to your private email - can't wait to hear from you again!
wrongwaywebb
G'day Leanne and the rest
Remembering just about everybody but cannot for the life on me remember who is standing to my (John Webb 2nd row 2nd from right) left. Seeing your post brought back memories of sliding across the oval at Kerevat when the rainstorms came down, that and collecting bits and pieces left over from the war much to Mum's horror.
I am living in Blackheath (Blue Mountains) but Anton is doctoring in Beaudesert.
Hear from you all soon..John
bronco0105

Hi Guys I am reading all your replys here with the biggest grin on my face. John we used to do heaps with your family, I have some memory about getting on the roof of a hut or something at your house and giving your Mum a heart attack. I hopefully have uploaded the Primary school photo. I have more photos of other years as well. My parents have kept so many photos, slides and movies of our time at Keravat it was such a fantastic time in our lives. I would really love to meet up with you all just name the time and place or I dont mind helping with organising something as well. I have 4 kids ages 27,23,20,18 + 1 granddaughter aged 2 - gosh how old do I feel now. Maybe some of you can fill in the blanks on the lower school class. I think last row 1st in is one of the Webb girls, 2nd row 3rd in is Tracey Medcalf, 5th in is my sister Kerry,1st row 5th is is Traceys brother. Many others look familiar but I cant remember names.
leanne
Hi I also have another one from a Sports Day in 1968.
peta
1968 photo - third row standing , 4th in from the left iis Ethel Yipsang and second row kneeling, second in from the right is my sister Linda Fraser. They are both in the sports day photo of 1967 as well - Ethel is front row - 3rd in from the left, and Linda is second in from the right.
As for the rest - all are familiar but can't remember names. Michael - where are you???? LOL
MBdidiman
I'm not in either of these but my brother Patrick Byrne is. He is the blond boy furthest to the left in the 1st photo and in the front row centre in the sports photo. He lives in Canberra now - will send him the link.
Timmy Yip-Sang/Ho-Leong is in these photo's, wondered why he wasn't in the earlier one. Also Paul Price, Andrew Taylor (Jenny's brother) and Rodney Byrne (Tavilo Plantation) is in the first photo and his brother Douglas in the second one.
PatByrne

Oh my Lord..........just had a quick look at your photo on you site Pat, and it was like looking at your father!
We all seem to remember the days in Kerevat with great fondness.
I don't know many of the kids in these photos (well after my time) but isn't the first girl in the front row of sports photo Margot Saville?
Cheers

tanja meijer
Hi Tanja yes it is me 3rd in the 2nd last row. This is so amasing to find this website after all these years. My parents have the photo you posted and the one from the lower school as well. I have such fantastic memories of my childhood at that school and of all the times we had in New Guinea. How long did you stay there and where are you now?
I agree, they were wonderful times in PNG. We were at Keravat for approx 10 months. I remember sitting next to you in class when I first arrived - do you still know a few words of Dutch? We moved back to Europe in 1969. I now live in Ireland - married with 3 sons.
1968 photo.....middle row, 1st girl is my sister Michelle.
leanne
HI Pat After reading your flashback I had a great laugh, I dont remember that but would you beleive Kerry does. I rang her straight away and told her and she remembered it all ..... wow. Do you guys remember the HotPot nights at the Gold Club and Guy Fawkes night? What boarding school did you go to in QLD Pat? Did anyone else go to boarding school here?
PatByrne
HI LEANNE
I have great memories of hot pot nights, guy fawkes (my brother (Michael) blowing up my hand in our front yard with a tom thumb left over from guy fawkes!!!), film nights there, playing pool using one ten cent piece because we put paper cups in the holes to stop the balls being locked away..... they built a sort of big shed out the side of the golf club for us kids to be away from the club house.
Went to boarding school in Warwick, Queensland.
Amazing that Kerry remembers that ...pass on my best to her and my details if you like at www.patbyrne.biz (http://www.patbyrne.biz).
HI BELINDA
Michael actually looks more like Dad apparently - I was left with all the good looks!!!
I suspect you are right wrt to Margot ... rings a bell with me.
I remember you and your sisters a little, Richard of course, the trade store and your Mum and Dad of course and the plantation and house.
I am sure you would recall my elder sisters best - one in Sydney now (Jenny) and one on Gold Coast (Meg).
cheers
Pat
Sweettrips
