View Thread : English couple experience pain and pleasure

They are easygoing, outgoing, down-to-earth and downright-friendly – something that matched that remote, unique, tropical and friendly atmosphere.

Young English couple, Dr Matt Morley and Dr Anna Malpas-Sands knew better than anybody else what it was like three years back when they first visited Papua New Guinea.

Around September, 2001, Matt and wife Anna, chose PNG as the destination for their honeymoon. This started with a trip to the beautiful island in Kavieng, New Ireland province. Here the couple enjoyed diving, snorkeling, sightseeing and a visit to the old Japanese war sites where they saw WWII wrecks.

“You could walk no more than 10 kilometers. It was a small island with white sandy beach. The scenery was beautiful, spectacular. The best part about our trip I’d say would be diving. We had such a great time and was a real privilege to have seen and experience the beauty of it,” Anna recalled back to the time of their honeymoon.

Anna said soon after their wedding, they have agreed to travel to a country in the South Pacific for their honeymoon. “One of the things we wanted to do on our trip was diving. We looked through which countries with the best diving spots and that is when we came across Kavieng. When we arrived there everything was just as we had seen,” Anna said.

For the couple noon times would probably be quietly spent on the bungalows taking in the natural beauty and enjoying the sun go down.

This week the couple arrived for the second time in country. This time they are back for a real “pain” and pleasure too. They are one of the many that have taken up the Pain and Pleasure Tour organized by the Kokoda Trekking Adventure in conjunction with the Tufi Dive Resort and the Kofure Village guesthouse in Tufi, Oro Province.

And just what do we mean by that? After the painful experience on the 97km Kokoda Trail, Matt and Anna will retreat to the spectacular Tufi for a week to relax, and enjoy diving.

Currently, the couple is out on the trail trekking the famous Kokoda Trail and are heading towards Ower’s Corner, near Sogeri. Anna’s sibling will be arriving from Australia to travel with them to Tufi.
