Description: Duration: 9 days / 8 nights

Suitable for the trekker who would like to take it easier and see/experience Kokoda in more time.

Day 1: POM - KOKODA - Arrive in Kokoda and meet our Kokoda Trekking Porters & Guides after a 20 minute flight from Port Moresby. A short walk from the airstrip to Kokoda Station for a tour of the War Museum and other attractions. Another short walk takes you to Russell’s secluded Family Block where you will be treated to an Oro singsing group performance.

Day 2: KOKODA - ISURAVA - It is here that the reality hits you - the Kokoda Trail will not be easy. It is quite steep at the beginning; however, do not throw in the towel yet. After about five hours walk, you arrive at Isurava. It was the site of a significant World War II battle and now one of the most - sacred sites along the trail. Here, you enjoy panoramic views of the Kokoda and Yodda valleys then overnight at the village guest house.

Day 3: ISURAVA - IORA CREEK - We set off for the next village of Alola, and on to Iora Creek, where we overnight.

Day 4: IORA CREEK - TEMPLETON'S CROSSING - Today starts with a steep climb, then a descent, to Templeton's Crossing where we spend the night under the forest canopy and the gentle voice of the Iora Creek splashing against the rocks. Trout fishing is available for those who have fishing lines.

Day 5: TEMPLETON'S CROSSING - KAGI - Day 5 begins with another climb up and down, another crossing of Iora Creek, and then a climb to the top of Mount Bellamy, the highest point of the Kokoda Trail. An enjoyable walk through a carpet of moss, to the junction of Myola and Kagi, which is marked by an aircraft propeller. We turn right from here, make a climb, and then descend to the village of Kagi where we overnight. Kagi commands spectacular views of villages along the Kokoda Trail.

Day 6: KAGI - MENARI - We start early with a walk to the airstrip, reputed to be the steepest in the world, descend to the creek, and then ascend to Efogi No. 2 village. When we look back, we can see how we have walked all the way from Kagi. From here, descend to Efogi, where we rest and collect our pre - arranged food drop. From here, we climb up to Brigade Hill - which together with Isurava is one of the most - sacred sites of the Kokoda Trail - and then descend to Menari village where we spend the night.

Day 7: MENARI - NAORO - We start with a steep hill and are rewarded from the summit with fine views of Menari. We make a muddy, swampy, and at times leech - infested trek to the Brown River, which we must cross with care especially if in flood. We walk on to Naoro where we overnight.

Day 8: NAORO - VA'ULE CREEK - We start by climbing the heartbreaking false peaks of Maguli Ridge (you can count them yourself). We descend to Ofi Creek for a well - deserved break, make another climb to Ioribaiwa Ridge, and then descend to Va' Ule Creek where we spend our last night.

Day 9: VA'ULE CREEK - OWERS' CORNER - Our last hard grind up the Imita Ridge, and then descend the 'Golden Stairs' to the Goldie River. A last refreshing dip before climbing up to Owers' Corner.

The above listed tour is by far the most popular trek. This trek allows you time on the trek and also shorter distances each day.

Price : $2560

This price includes the cost of a personal porter.

NOTE: These prices are effective starting from 1st of November 2007.
Price Variation: Due to possible currency fluctuations, increases in KTA trek fees and other cost components, we reserve the right to increase our fee without notice. These variations will not however be charged if full payment has been received prior to any such increase.

Full payment for your trek is due 60 days prior to the departure date.

For group bookings of 10 or more discounts apply.

Please Note: Bookings are not considered confirmed until Kokoda Trekking (KTL) have received your completed booking sheet per the icon on the left hand side of our website. A deposit of $500.00 per trekker is required at the time of booking to secure your trek. This confirms your committment and covers all administration costs and associated expenditure.

Also note that additional trekkers can be added closer to your trekking date. If however an increase has occurred since the initial booking then these new bookings would naturally be required to pay at the higher rate. Although, unlikely it is explained to avoid confusion as a result of price differences between individual trekkers in the same group.

Why do the packages cost the same? The 6 days / 5 nights trek is a more exhausting trek so we feel that the guides and porters should be compensated the same as if it had be for the longer, easier trek.

General:
Tour cost per trekker in Australian Dollars includes:

Experienced guide
Group porters
Food
Road transfers
Kokoda Track permit and village fees
Ticket from Port Moresby to Kokoda.
Trekkers should have a medical checkup to verify that their health is satisfactory for this strenuous walk and must arrange and provide proof of their own travel and health insurance cover. It is recommended that trekkers hire their own personal porter to carry their essential at least 50 litre backpack.

The cost of a personal porter is A $510.00 which covers for the porter's pay, food, airfare and road transport.

A guide is a 'necessity' unless you have walked the Kokoda Trail yourself or a very 'experienced' trekker. A food porter is a necessity to carry your food supply unless you want to carry it yourself or want to survive on village food. A personal porter is a matter of choice.

Airlines PNG (a local airline) scheduled flights Port Moresby to Kokoda are at 7.00am Wednesday's and Sunday's only.

Another option is to fly with Air Niugini into Popondetta and catch a PMV (Bus) up to Kokoda. There are daily flights into Popondetta if you decide to choose this method.

We can however, arrange a special charter any day of the week. Please contact us for pricing.

Note:
Trekking to include Myola or other points of interest is not included in the standard itinerary but can be arranged when booking your tour. Similarly, overnight stops in villages of Myola, Efogi or Naoro can be arranged which could lengthen the overall duration of the trek up to 11 days.
